One of the "cheap" yearlings I picked up last year at F-T OCT is in tomorrow night, making her race debut. Her name is La Rockette, two year old filly by Acceptable out of Mike's Show by Dynaformer. I sold her in the spring to a pal, Steve Cook. They are really high on her. It is only a $13K race, but her claiming price is $40K so they shouldn't lose her.
Of the other yearlings I sold at two, Gilded Angel has shipped to Spain to run. Exclusivity is in the upcoming OBS sale.

A claiming race is, I believe, called a "sell" race in England.
The purse is a set price, and the horses can have different claiming prices. In this particular case, this is a Maiden Claiming Race for 2 year old fillies. The purse is $13,600 and the claiming prices are $40,000 or $50,000 (set by the trainer). This is a maiden race, for non winners.
If someone wants a horse in a claiming race, they have a time window before the race to "drop" a claim slip in the claiming box. They have to have the purchase price for the horse in a horseman's account at the racetrack prior to being able to claim the horse.

Well she backed Waaaay up when the kickback hit her face and spotted them about 20 lengths.. but about the 3/8 pole she got hold and closed and missed 5th by a neck. It was a nine horse field. The 11 horse just stopped. If she can overcome the kickback and stay a little closer I think she can do really well. There were some very well-bred, expensive horses in the crowd so the little $1K filly did pretty well.
