Gear It Up (whom you may recall was injured at Mountaineer) returned to training at Fair Grounds and has breezed twice. Both times he has been extremely slow. After he came back Tuesday the vet and trainer found soreness in a suspensory ligament with no other symptoms. If the soreness doesn't recede they will scan and look for a tear. I'm worried (but it could be premature and the soreness could just be a result of returning to training) that that fateful trip to Mountaineer could have been the end of Gear It Up's career, and personality wise he is my favorite of the horses I have shares in.
Smokie (Citi Smoke) on the other hand is training very well and is headed to the GIII Lecomte Stakes on January 13th at Fair Grounds (1 mile on the dirt), and may or may not (I suspect not) have a race in between to sharpen him. I'm really excited at the prospect of having one of the first horses I've ever owned an interest in run in a graded stakes race. I don't know if he'll win as he is not as mature as some, but he won't be outclassed. But this also could be premature as it is a long time till January 13th and anything could happen.
I know that Gear It Up might be o.k. and Smokie might not run, but I couldn't help sharing my worry/elation.

More news on Gear It Up. He had both front legs scanned after it was determined that both right and left front suspensory ligaments were areas of concern. The scans showed that there are no tears in either ligament. Yaaay!!
It was determined that there is slight straining, with a little fluid in both legs. He will be walked for a while and medicated to reduce the fluid buildup and any swelling, and when his training resumes it will be dialed back a bit to allow his body to adjust. I'm relieved, it could have been a lot worse.
