My Son Spider, making his long-awaited '07 debut, Saturday at Pimlico, race 11. One mile on the turf, A other than!
He's been training well after his nice long winter hiatus.
Nothing like a homebred race on beautiful Derby Day at a non-Derby venue, thank goodness! The first horse we ever bought broke his maiden in his first start for us...on Preakness Day, somewhere else! Good historical vibes.
Dirt to turf angle playable here, and the boy will get some odds.
We're back

Thanks Monicabee...it was a Derby-worthy brim!
Spider made a game effort but got hung six wide on the turn after a strong middle move. First time on the lawn, so he was 52-1. We only lost by 6 lengths, so he'll be back. Came out of it great, eating like a...horse.
They went almost two seconds faster than the stakes race, so it was a surprising heat for us. Little saltier than we expected!

Back in again Sunday, only at the PHA this time
My Son Spider, making his 2nd start of '07, and second start on the lawn.
Race 6. He posted a good number from the run at Pimlico (even though he was 6th, beaten 6), so we'll see if that second start off the layoff is key.

Well, he did it
Spider won today at Philly Park, the first turf race of the '07 season there.
Whew! The big grey came out of it fine, so he'll get a breather for now.
Look for his 3yo. full sister to start soon....
