This sounds like fun, a wincheque and no claim.

My first TB racehorse was a crazy, neurotic three yr old that I got an eighth of for $500. My job was to gallop him everyday for my eighth day money. We claimed him for $4000 the day he broke his maiden, and he won back. The next spring I called my father across the country all excited and said my horse won going 4 furlongs for $10k! He opened up about 25 lengths in the first three eighths and got the photo by a whisker! My father said, "Do you know what would make this story perfect? If he had been claimed." I was mortified that he would wish my precious baby gone who I just knew would be a stakes horse if I could just get his head on straight. He knew he wasn't worth ten. He never won another race and the majority owner sold him to the first fifteen hundred dollars who walked down the shed. :) The ones you like always get claimed, but not too many did back then when the gap between claiming price and purse was so big.
