Punc is in the 3rd at Ellis on Sunday

Postby madelyn » Thu Jul 22, 2010 7:49 am

After two split-the-pack races at the end of the CD meet running against Better Girls by trainers thinning stock at the end of the meet, we have Miss Punctuality dropping quite a bit against what hopes to be a softer field on Sunday the 25th.

Rats, after all that she didn't draw in. 19 entries and they still didn't split the race. Lookin' at 5-1/2 on the weeds on July 30th instead.

They complain that fields aren't full but they don't write races for the horses they have...

AAARGH - Punc got 13th on the AE list for Ellis tomorrow, but the scratches won't be out until 4pm today, so we have to scratch. We need 24 hrs for pre-race vet, and spending that $125 plus $375 to ship out there when we are not "in" makes no sense.. our barn has one going to Mountaineer on Tuesday and there is a sub race for Punc there also, crossing my fingers that the race goes and she makes it in.

There is just nothing easy about this game - have a horse whose been ready to run for two weeks and I guess so does everyone else!!

We got in, she is #3 in the third race! Now to figure out where I will sleep - we are shipping up Monday afternoon.

Madelyn, the Racetrack has a nice casino with plenty of rooms and a horseman's rate if you contact the boss ,her name is Rose Mary Williams and she keeps a block of rooms for shippers. If you just show up and ask for a room then you will be S.O.L. . I can get you her number but it's in the condition book anyway. I am in here Sunday and Monday but am in at Thistledown on Tues, will try to get back in time to meet you and watch your race. Wilf.

Thanks Wilf - I will call up there and see if I can get her number. I don't have the condition book and there are no numbers in the online version we used to pick races.

BTW you should see Oro Caliente's filly this year, she is a stunner.

We had fun - she broke on top, good pilot aboard, led the whole way and got tired in the deep mud. Four ran past but she was only 6 lengths back and the jockey said she wins next time out easy. It was her first try at a mile, and this is where she belongs. But gawd what a drive.
It was GREAT to meet Wilf!

Your horse looked really well Madelyn and should improve from the experience.Come back soon as the purses are being cut every two weeks I think. They already started choppping them today, citing operating losses and revenue declines from the slots. Funny thing is that the car park is always full and it's tough to get a room here. I wonder if the men-in-suits will take a paycut or be shown the door. I doubt it and there are so many of them.
