Blazing Lute

Postby ZiaLand » Sun Feb 10, 2013 3:39 pm

Our new broodmare acquisition, Blazing Bartok, has a 3YO colt in training at Santa Anita named Blazing Lute (Midnight Lute).

His last official work was on February 1st where he ran 36:00 handily at three furlongs. No idea what that means at SA.

We'll be keeping an eye on him.

By the way, if anyone has access to the database, could you please also enter Blazing Bartok's 2YO colt by Cowboy Cal, American Cowboy, foaled 04/11/2011. Thanks!

Update. We received our first notice of a work for Blazing Lute on March 6. It was a bullet work at Santa Anita over 3 furlongs. (His time was better than He's Had Enough working on the same day.)

Jagger just informed me on another thread that Blazing Lute runs his first race today--he's in the 6th at OPX.

(Not sure why my virtual stable didn't catch this, but glad we got the word!)

Will be watching keenly, ZiaLand. We have a Midnight Lute due in Mid May. Really interested in the 3 ML's running tomorrow at Sunland...2 in the same race!! Midnight Lute is certainly off to a good start.

I saw the coverage of one of his fillies winning a race a few weeks ago. She destroyed the field. I think it may have even been her debut. Amazing to watch.

He sure looks promising. Keep me posted on your foal-to-be.

The Sunland Derby has both Shakin It Up and Govenor Charlie. Both of these are o/o Silverbulletday mares.

Wow! Same breeder (Michael Pegram) on both too, and he's the co-owner on Shakin It Up, according to the database.

Midnight Lucky is in the 10th at Sunland....The Sunland Park Oaks. She's the 5-2 favorite as is Shakin It Up in the following race...11th...The Sunland Derby. To be honest though, not sure but certainly hopeful, if SIU is good for 2 turns.

It looks like Shakin It Up is lightly raced with only 2 starts so a bit of a wildcard, but those two races resulted in a graded stakes win in the G2 San Vicente and a graded stakes place in (3rd) in the G3 Hollywood Prevue.

I can see why he's a favorite. (Wonder if the connections have an eye on the KD?)

Oh! That name just clicked! Midnight Lucky is the filly I saw who destroyed the field in her last race! It was her debut.

Had no idea she's running at Sunland. Thanks for the head's up. Hmm, have to think about a road trip tomorrow. Our mares (the Lion Heart too) is only a few miles from Sunland so we could stop by the farm for a visit, while we're at it. Hmmm...

Midnight Lucky is also co-owned by Michael Pegram. It looks like he's one of the owners of Midnight Lute, too.

Baffert trains them both. The same combo, Baffert and Pegram, were together with the Grandsire, Real Quiet, who narrowly missed the Triple Crown in '98.

Interesting. In addition to Lookin at Lucky, Miss Gibson County was also one of Pegram's horses who was trained by Baffert. She's a half-sib to my Lion Heart mare's dam, Rich In Love.

Jagger, yeah, we're mulling over making the trip down to Sunland tomorrow. If not, we'll watch on TVG.
