This week's entry

Postby Denise » Wed Jul 06, 2005 6:53 am

We're in a marathon (mile and 3/8ths) on the lawn with our 5yo. mare, One and Only You, at Philly Park Saturday. Third leg of the starter handicap series. She won the second leg on June 18th.
This filly's a half to Miles Ahead, who just won the VA Gold Cup, and Run for Joy, who won over $400K.
We tried to sell her as a broodmare prospect last Dec. No takers. Serendipity, I guess. After she spent the winter outside, she seemed to like racing again, but she's a bit stubborn about it, so who knows what the new moon will bring this week.

Wishing you and the mare the very best. Is the race on turf?? I like marathon racing with four years and up very much especial on large wide
turf tracks.

I sure likes this kind of race, wishing my filly could be there!!
Odds 7-2, if she,s wins, no bank in the world gives that kind of turnover!!

It rained like the dickens here today (hope that translates easily  ) so in all likelihood, we'll have to scratch if the race comes off the turf.
We have a plan to run the filly in a nice state-bred stakes race in two weeks, so she'll be okay off the layoff if tomorrow doesn't work.

My filly, was supposed to run, in a very small stakes race a mile and a quarter, and it has been raining cats and dogs. Races are not switched
over here so this suits her very much.
But she is still on recovery from her last hauling to the north of germany
Lots of luck anyhow

Good luck BenB

As we suspected, the race came off the turf, so our mare will wait for two weeks for the small stakes.
Times like these I wish we did race in Europe, because like yours, ours love the soft turf! They train on it at the farm.

marathon race

Not to steal the thread, but a true marathon is Fort Erie's "Tour de Fort". 2m70yd. The horses cross the finish line three times before the race is finished! :o

marathon

Postby BenB » Thu Jul 21, 2005 12:21 pm

A couple of years ago, I was having a horse in the Cesarawitch
18 furlong, at the end of the season, mostly a mud fight on a very heavy
turf track. Last year my filly, as a three year old, my avatar ran in the Dutch st. Leger 14,5 furlong
