Back in Flightline's pedigree ...

There is a horse named Jim Gaffney in Flightline's bottom line.

For some reason many years ago and unknown to me now, I included him in my large database of significant horses. I traced his racing record and compiled every date that he ran (a total of 72 starts). After competing respectfully in the East against the likes of Fair Play, Royal Tourist, Colin, and Uncle, he moved to the west coast where he ran primarily at the old Oakland and Vancouver venues for some pretty lowly purses. At Oakland he ran against Royal Tourist a couple of time and once against Roseben. Then came the CA blackout years. His last five races were at Latonia and CD in 1911.

FYI. Not every grandparent is a rock star.

No slouch as a sire, siring Jim Dandy. Any horse from early in the 20th c that they name a race for, I'm always all in on. In this case, Saratoga no less. Flightline's female family tracing to Blitely hence lots of very fine runners in there.
