Jolly Jake, NZ Derby winner of 1984 did race in USA, but all of his wins were in hurdle races

I don't even know right off hand where these places are located, but here are the dates to match his four U.S. wins.

May 10, 1986 at "Clm"

May 17, 1986 at "Mal"

May 9, 1987 at "Clm"

May 23, 1987 at "Pro"

I'm sure somebody around here knows the names of those "hunt meeting" tracks.

Trainer was Jonathan Sheppard, so surely that is a possible source of information or success.

Back in NZ, he won at AVondale on Dec 15, 1984

and at Auckland on Dec. 26, 1984, which was surely the Derby

What a great thing you are doing by spending your time with this. Do you actually call the racetrack for copies of the pictures??? If you find info on the following horses I would be soooo greatful.

Greycliffe, 2001, Diligence x Basquinginsunshine

Never Under, 2001?, Never Wavering x Over The Falls. She is still running both at Mountaineer and Thistledown.

Cee Knows Evil, 1997, Dynaformer x Cee Knows

Also, Southern Tee (sadly missed), 1995, Lil' E. Tee x Bluegrass Belle.

Thank you so much!

Hi, I own a horse named Shelter (1997) he is by Seeking the Gold and out of Missed the Storm (Storm Cat). He was bred by Pin Oak Stud in Kentucky. At age 3 he won an allowance race at Fair Grounds, At 4 won an allowance race at Fair Grounds again. He also ran at 3 at Churchill Downs and then in 01 at Woodbine. If you cna connect me with any info that would be super. :D

First of all, nice pedigree on that one.

And I can add that the dates of his wins were as follows:

Nov. 22, 2000 Churchill Downs

Dec. 30, 2000 Fairgrounds, LA

Jan. 20, 2001 Fairgrounds

(won three in a row)

Nov. 4, 2001 Woodbine, Ontario, Canada

If advertising him as a stallion commercially, I'd get the pictcures of those three wins (for top trainer Steve Asmussen) and play-up the fact that he broke his maiden by 8 lengths in 1:09 1/5 at Churchill vs. Maiden Special Weights.

At least the dates might help you.

Contact track photographers at those tracks for more.

Looking for win photo's

Postby Jenny » Tue Mar 06, 2007 9:44 pm

Hi I am looking for photo's of Gone Fishin ( Honor Grades x Exangular Lady)
He is now standing at stud in Ontario, for us Stone Briar Stables at Hillside Thoroughbreds. He has 7 wins and I did manage to get a photo from Cott Cambell of Dogwood Stable of his win at the Fairgrounds. I would however really like his Jaipur G3 win in 2002. I have called Belmont and they never got back to me. He also has wins at Saratoga and Woodbine. I thinK? any help would be greatly appriciated. Usefull for advertizing purposes.
Thank you
Nicola Scott

Gone Fishin

Seven wins as follows:

May 27, 1999 at Belmont Park, NY

August 11, 1999 at Saratoga, NY

April 15, 2000 at Keeneland, KY

May 28, 2000 at Belmont, NY (Jaipur Stakes)

March 17, 2002 at Fairgrounds, LA

October 18, 2002 at Woodbine, Ontario, Canada

July 23, 2003 at Woodbine

Now that you have the exact dates, you can attempt to contact the track photographers with helpful information in hand. Make another attempt at the NY tracks for the Jaipur, but merely ask for contact info for the track photographer.

Just be aware that you can't just use these pictures in advertising. Most photographers will require that you pay an extra fee for that privilege. Be sure to ask any photographer about using these images commercially, or there may be copyright issues.

Hi there,

Just acquired the stud Eltish. Would love to have an old winner circle pic of him for my boss. He won a lot of stakes in England, I dont know how hard that is to find, but.... in the US:
BEL in 96 ALW 1 1/16m
SAR in 97 ALW 6 1/2 f

(England just in case)
Royal Lodge Stakes in 1994 england g2 1 mile
Lanson Champagne Vintage S in 1994 england g3 7f
Maiden race at York gf (that one would be fantasic!)

Thanks for your time! I really appreciate this!

Hi,

Y'know, Eltish was a much better race horse than some of his record indicates.

He was 2nd in the Breeders' Cup Juvenile to Timber Country

He was just 1 1/2 lengths behind the runner-up in the Kentucky Derby (that runner-up, Tejano Run, was somebody he'd beaten in the Breeders' Cup earlier).

He lost to Cigar by less than 4 lengths, etc.

Ahhhh but that isn't what we're here for:

Eltish's wins:

July 8, 1994 York, England

http://www.racingpost.co.uk/darley/darl ... _id=120425

July 27, 1994 Goodwood, England (Group III stakes)

Sept 24, 1994 Ascot, England (Group II stakes)

October 12, 1996 Belmont, NY

July 25, 1997 Saratoga, NY

I wish I could offer hints or clues as to how likely you are to be successful in obtaining the pictures you seek, from overseas.

At least they all speak (and e-mail in) english, so you can at least inquire and get some sort of a response.

I hope this helps somehow.

Thanks!
glad to see someone else knows about his on track career!!

The BC was his first time on the dirt and in the us, the wrong way! Not too shabby to come in second!

That KD was his second attempt on the dirt! And he was beaten out by a few lengths in a line of horses! Good attempt.

And you are right! He BEAT Elusive Quality and Stayed with Cigar!

Hes alright in my book!!! (thats why he is mine now!)

Thanks a lot! Much appreciated!
