Bernard's Bay

Postby shimmeringbay » Sun Jul 11, 2010 11:32 am

I adopted a dark bay gelding with a faded tattoo said to be registered as Bernard's Bay. I was also told he trained and raced briefly but was so unmanageable around the other horses he was sold to someone wanting a jumper, thinking competition where he was solo in the arena would be more advantageous. Lastly I was told he was foaled around 1991.

Can anyone help me with information?

The color, tho' few of the other details, fits Bernhards Bay.

Bernhards Bay . . . wow I wonder. . . supposedly my horse finished his brief career at River Downs, according to the first "off track" owner who I finally located. Where did this horse race?

My horse is a dark bay, blazed, with one rear sock.

1986 makes him a bit older than I was told. . . hmm.

Thank you very much for helping me.

Anxious for more details . . .

To find out where he last raced you can get a full or partial performance record from Brisnet or equineline for a ~$5 or less. The only addt'l. detail I can offer is that he raced 5 yrs., '88-'92.

IME, horses are seldom younger than the seller claims. One of ours was advt. as 12 when we bought him. Turned out to be 18. Now 25 & still going strong. Here's to many happy days for you & your new boy.

Yep, that's my boy!

Thanks PZ! Got his race record, found the track photographer who found the 1990 negatives of his win photos.

What a gift! The missing chapters of his life are now known.

PS: I adopted him 3 years ago. One of the best decisions of my life.
