Pedigree Query

I have a 17H TB gelding. His name is Allegro. He is bay w/a blaze and a white hind low sock. No tattoo. Approx 14-15 years old. Any history/info etc on this horse would be appreciated. I don't think he raced. He has good under saddle training. He might have been a jumper on a dressage horse. He is short backed and has great gaits w/wonderful suspension. We are located in FL in the USA. I was told he belonged to a doctor's wife in Alabama here in the states. He was her first riding horse. I was unable to get her name or address. I did notice a N. Zealand TB on the database similar to my guy. Any info on contacting that breeder would be great.

I am guessing that your horse came by his "allegro" name unofficially.

All of the different TB Allegro's I can find from around the world have raced. That hints strongly that they would have had a tattoo of some sort. (although I don't know if that is true for runners in some places overseas or not)

The New Zealand bred Allegro last raced in Australia in 1995. There were others bred in Japan, Belgium, and Great Britain.

I just don't think it too probable that the Allegro from Australia/NZ ended up in Alabama before you found him.

It is likely to be a struggle to learn more without more info.

You are correct. Allegro is probably his unofficial name.

This is a needle in the haystack. I was thinking of taking out an ad in the Chronicle of the Horse. I am 100% sure he didn't race. His training, gaits and movement scream dressage. I am just so curious about his origins.

Um, pretty impossible to guess who he is unless he can tell you himself. If he was younger you could have his DNA run and they might be able to tell you. There was a recent thread about the Jockey Club's ability to re-identify a mare after the owner sent in registration for her foal. The DNA did not match the mother, and after all was said and done they did know who the mare really was. BUT I doubt a 14-15 year old was DNA registered... that is a question you could pose to the Jockey Club.

If this horse is registered with the JC, he has a lip tatoo, whether he ever raced or not. If he has no tatoo, he is not registered, and information on his breeding is not available through the JC. If he was ever registered with any other registration, they might give you info (not sure what that registration would be, but, anyway). Registered TBs have tattoos because of their registration with the JC, not because of whether or not they raced.

He has no tattoo. I checked every other registry know to man and found nothing. He's a real mystery.

Inyureye....A registered TB does not have to have a tatoo. Most people register their babies by their 1st birthday to avoid higher registration fees. Tatoos are usually done at the track.

That's true. My mare is registered with the JC and did not race. No tattoo.
