Regal Appeal

Postby dfait04 » Sun Oct 02, 2005 8:20 pm

I recently purchased my first Thoroughbred! [Regal Appeal] I found this site by accident, but found his pedigree and other information on him! I learned that my 13 year old gelding is actually only 9! :o (Good information to know!)

I was wondering if anyone knew anything else about him! I'd love to know more about his race career (which wasn't too exciting!) and other things such as his breeder, trainer(s), owners, etc! Thanks so much for taking time to read this! I can't wait to see if anyone knows anything about him! :D

Your horse actually had a thriving race career.

He won 10 of 55 starts and earned $126,693

I can verify that he is only 9 years old now (2005)

Breeder of your horse: Harry T. Mangurian Jr. (bred in Florida)

First owners during race career:

"Fan Stables, Ltd."

First trainer during race career:

Craig Dollase

He had many different trainers during his long career (at least 8)

Dates and locations of his wins as follows:

Sept. 22, 1999 at Fairplex Park, Pomona, California

Aug. 14, 2000 at Ferndale, California

Sept. 2, 2000 at Sacramento, CA

Oct. 12, 2001 at Fresno, CA

Dec. 29, 2001 at Turf Paradise, Phoenix, AZ

July 1,

July 26,

Aug. 20, 2002 all at Mountaineer Park, West Virginia

Nov. 1, 2002 at Mountaineer Park, WV

July 4, 2003 at Mountaineer Park, WV

So that makes 10 lifetime wins. You should be able to contact those tracks to arrange to purchase winner's circle photos for your horse.

I hope this helps you.

If you need more, please be specific.

one more thing

Postby JimbleBrimble » Tue Oct 04, 2005 6:41 pm

FYI

In his last race, about a year ago (Oct. 9, 2004 at Mountaineer Park, WV) I read that your horse was pulled up because of "poor action" (meaning "poor stride, etc.")

In case that somehow helps in knowing him today.

Thank you so much! I was wondering why they finally retired him. I was told that his last trainer had placed him in a few claiming races and he never got a claim on him.

Do you know anything else at all? I don't know what all I want to know, I just want to know as much about him as possible! :) He's my baby, and I'd love to know what all he did and went through.

I didn't know if you would happen to be able to find a purchase price ever on him or not. Also, is 55 starts a lot for a racehorse? I'm not very familiar with horse racing, so I'm not too sure! :) I figure for his age, it's a normal amount.

What exactly did you mean by poor stride? I didn't know if it was just to do with racing? He is an awesome hunter horse (still green, but very willing and doing well with his training) but he does have some problems with his shoulders. There's some soreness and he's very resistant to picking up the left lead. Sorry that I'm rambling, but I'd just like to get everything out there for ya!

Thanks again!

55 is quite a lot of starts for a race horse.

Yours raced in claiming races in all but three of his lifetime starts.

He was claimed five times over the years.

The person who last purchased him before his racing career (for $25,000, as reported by another person here) had him claimed away some time later for $20,000.

Then after knowing little success for that outfit, he was claimed away for $3200 by someone else. Nearly two years later that person in turn had him claimed away by another party for the same $3200.

Three months later, from May to August 2002, that person had him claimed away for $6500 after posting three wins in four starts under their care.

He was last claimed in late Dec. 2002 for $4500 before winning his very next start in July of 2003 and then not winning again, in thirteen more starts.

Oh, and his true birthdate was February 12, 1996, in case you don't have it.

For clarity, all I know is that your horse was pulled up in his last race because of "poor action" (which translates to his stride not having been ideal on that particular day). I don't know any specifics as to what that meant when they got him back to the barn. Not coincidentally, I'm sure, is the fact that he never raced again.

Thank you both SO much for your help! I love being able to find out more about my horse! It's amazing to me to see everything that went on before I owned him!

Just curious, where do you get all of your information from?

Once again, thank you so much! It's nice to know everything that you have told me!

This is me not knowing anything, AGAIN! What exactly is a "war horse"?

Once again, thanks!! :!: I don't think I can say that enough!

A War Horse is an OTTB with over 50 starts ... there are horse shows sometimes restricted to off the track Thoroughbreds and they have classes for War Horses.

Info is sort of everywhere, the inro regarding your horse's auction prices came from my APR CD, mine is a 2003 edition.

Jimblebrimble seems to have access to racing stats.

Here on this site, you will find some of the most amazing people with amazing sources.

Madelyn--

Where is information about these shows for OTTB? I'd love to attend one with my horse! :) I live in NE Ohio, so I'm not to sure there'd be many around here!

There is one at Turfway Park each year, there may be one up near you because of the large number of tracks near you.

I will ask around. You can usually pick up info on stuff like this in the track kitchen.
