Sweet By And By - Debbie Hilly?

Postby puppetplanet » Thu Feb 02, 2006 5:52 pm

Hi, I recently acquired a rescue and pulled a report from The Jockey Club using her tattoo. As of her last race on 2/02/89 her owner was Debbie Hilly, trainer was Anthony Pecoraro and the jockey was Maureen Andrews.

I'm just trying to find Debbie Hilly because she was listed as the last owner of my horse Sweetie (aka Sweet By And By). I've heard that there might have been a family that purchased Sweetie from Debbie in 1989 and took really good care of her until 2002 when they were forced to sell for some unknown family/personal reason.

I don't know much about her history from 2002 until 7/2005 when she was turned over for rescue and the people that turned her in (reason listed was due to financial reasons) didn't offer too much details about her care, history, etc.

I don't follow the races much but I was just wondering if the owners, trainers, etc ever wonder what becomes of the horses after they are retired? Do they like to hear that they are in good homes, receive photos, and updates etc? Or do you think I'm waisting my time with the research?

Thanks for any help & information you can offer about my horse and any of her previous owners.

I was wondering how to find out what the abreviations mean on the report I received from The Jockey Club? I would like to make an attempt to get a good photo from one of her wins, but I can't figure out which track to call or how to give them the information of the race in order to find the photographer, etc.

For example, she won three times (I think it Deleware?). The other information via mixture of numbers and letters is greek to me. What do the letters "dh" mean next to some of the horses that placed?

If anyone is looking her up, I was just curious what your insight or oppinion was to the information thats available. Are there any signs of trouble starting, on the track, finishing, etc? Maybe some famous horses in her pedigree that I could brag to my dad about? (he gambled alot, but doesn't recall who might have been famous or who won him any money)

Hope I can get some fun info to share!

Well she was a durable sort:

1984 Sweet By And By,f,Laomedonte 4 31 3 2 2 10,950 0.33
North America 2 YO Record 4 0 0 1 1,173
North America Turf Record 1 0 0 0 0
North America Dirt Sprints 25 2 1 2 8,339
North America Dirt Routes 5 1 1 0 2,611
North America Muddy/Sloppy 3 0 0 1 1,176
DP = 9-10-5-0-0 DI = 8.60 CD = 1.17 AWD = 6.83

She raced for 4 years, 31 starts, won 3, was second twice and third twice, and earned $10,950. She was a sprinter on the dirt, so she did best ad a distance of less than a mile and not on the turf. And she is 22!... Good luck with her!
So Run for the Roses, as fast as you can.....

Wow, doesn't sound like she earned much though.

Is there a way to find out if she ever had any offspring... or how ever it's supposed to be worded for horses.

Thanks!

Indeed, she did not.. was racing probably at the bottom level. She is not listed as having any Thoroughbred offspring.

Thank you for your help Madelyn.

I figured out that the DEL under track meant Del Mar.... not Deleware.

I contacted the track photographer so here's hoping that I get something out of the three wins she had.

Still no luck finding most recent previous owners though.

Thanks again!

Actually, you were right the first time! 'DEL' is Delaware Park. I believe the abbreviation for Del Mar is DMR. :)

Also, the 'DH' stands for 'dead heat'.
