Had a Peaks and Valleys colt!

Postby Mood Swings » Tue Feb 13, 2007 4:14 pm

My mare delivered a large colt on Saturday :D He is very handsome, unfortunately he had to be admitted to the large animal clinic in Guelph because he developed aspiration pneumonia in his first 24 hrs. :( The good news is my little man has a good prognosis and will possibly be discharged in the next day or two.

I tell ya when it rains it pours - first my computer goes, than my car, now my foal is sick :? I really miss not being able to browse the forum whenever I want - computers are a pain in the ass
Cross your fingers, we are nick naming him "Ralphie" after the vet who's been working on him

Oh Mood Swings - I sure hope Ralphie is doing okay? If I'm to guess is aspiration pneumonia in foals like it is in people? How did he get that - choke on mom's milk or he is getting bottle fed? Geez - sounds like he is doing better which is great news!

Be sure to send us pics :)

I'm guessing he choked on the amniotic fluid contents during delivery, right? If he's already better, he'll be okay. Congratulations. Pictures when available, please. :)

The little fellow has returned from Guelph and is nursing up a storm! I am very pleased with the progress he has made, he is no longer on antibiotics and is as sprightly as any of the other foals at the farm! I would love to post pictures but I do not know how.

the easiest way I have found is : go to photobucket.com ....its free...sign up then you want to download your pictures....see browse??click on it find your photo(you will have to download your pictures first on you computer)
click, then press download. ....after picture is downloaded...generate html code at the bottom of page.(make sure you put check mark to mark picture ).....then it will go to a new page find the box where it says thumbnails or images for message boards....highlight copy then all you do is come back here, and paste!!!!I am not a computer wiz and it took me a couple of times to get it right but once you do its easy and if your computer breaks down your pictures are safe from being lost. He's a very typical Peaks and Valleys foal, he sure does stamp them just like himself.

Hopefully yours won't inherit the typical Peaks temperament..

Did the mare go with the foal to clinic to continue the bonding..if not how did she act when the foal returned

He certainly looks like a handfull now...

K~2 - this little guy is out of my other mare. "Jane" the one with the placentits is due in mid-April and she's still hanging in there fingers are crossed

Intristic Worth - What might the typical Peaks temperment be - mounting humans? kicking and biting? If any of the above applys well I guess he's a typical Peaks! Here I figured he was making up for lost time in the clinic  My friend has pointed out that he has little devil ears
