What number of gestation days is commonly used
Is gestation 335, 340, 343 days...a mare is considered late by what standard of days...various board members will state mare is so many days late...what's the average used? Previous foals were born on day 348 and 351. This mare was covered March 12..was she due Monday 2/12, due tomorrow 2/15 or Sunday 2/18...when is she officially late
I think that's one of those opinion questions... you get a different opinion from eveyone you ask. The one I hear most often is 340 days (11 months, 4 days... or 48 1/2 weeks.) I have a nifty little breeding wheel, and when you plug in March 12 as the breeding date, day 340 ends up on Feb. 15th... but the foaling date "window" goes from day 315 (Jan.21) to day 350 (Feb. 25.) And of course, every mare is different...
That probably didn't really answer your question, did it?

We have a chart that goes by cover date and the age of the mare. If you would like to know what it says, you could send me the ages of your mares. It would be neat to see how close it is for you.
I use to hear, by the sign of the new moon, and we had a QH mare that foaled 3 out of 4 times on the new moon.

Julie's Gem is up in the barn (since January 25th or so) and is bagged with the little bugger bouncing around in there like a boxer. I figure he's trying to get out and she's waiting for the nearly 50 degree weather headed in on Monday. It's a Minardi (I bought her in foal).
So Run for the Roses, as fast as you can.....

That's the mare you got at the Hoosier Park sale isn't it? Good luck with her and baby. Is she foaling in Indiana or Kentucky?
She is foaling in Kentucky. Since the mare was only out of the state of Kentucky for less than 12 hours on that August day, I am pressuring the KTDF folks to allow the foal into the KY program. It seems silly to me, but rules are rules.
And yes, she is the mare I got at Hoosier Park. I adore her. On top of being well bred and beautiful, she is a true sweetheart to deal with and has no vices or health issues at all. It was quite a bargain deal.

Good Luck with her and baby! If I was going to buy anything at that sale it would have been her too. Well, if you can't get KTDF to agree, you could always register her with Indiana and let her foal here. Especially, if we get the slots. You would still have to breed her to an Indiana stallion though to get Indiana bred, since she would be registered late.
