FINALLY!!

Postby madelyn » Sun Mar 04, 2007 7:48 am

But worth the wait, about an hour ago, Julie's Gem finally dropped a GORGEOUS colt. Bay with a big star, VERY nice, correct and all the angles are right. Today is the anniversary of her cover so she went a full 365 days.

Julie's Gem, that's the Minardi foal, is it not?

Congratulations Madelyn! Looking forward to pictures. Did you get a "twofer" today, or was she just teasing?

Yup, it's the Minardi.. nope, Lady Bomb is still hanging in there, peacecully munching.

Pics maybe this afternoon if I can get my husband to help (unlikely) and no farm help today so I have all the stalls to muck alone.

I'm just tickled to GET the Minardi at all -- I bought Julie's Gem at an auction and you know usually there's something going on "under the hood" with those. No live foal guarantee, and caveat emptor. And I paid something like 10% of the stud fee, mare included. Go figure.

I wish I could keep this one to race, I LOVE his pedigree and also could name him "March Forth"!

Why not?! You don't have much equity in him. :D

Even if you don't keep him - I'd still name him that! Great name!

Well here is a pisser for you. I bought the mare at the ITOBA sale. So according to the KY Breeder's Incentive Fund rules, this foal is ineligible. Even though the mare was bred to Minardi, who was a KY sire and nominated and all, and she resided in Owensboro KY until the morning of the sale, and then returned to KY in the afternoon, the breeding is disqualified. I talked to them, and wrote a letter as they suggested and have never even had the courtesy of a reply.

Being of very limited resources ($$), I can only realistically send one or two into training. So I think I need to focus on the ones that are KBIF registered that I was the breeder of (and my first loyalty has to be to the Rocky foals).

But yes :) I think it's a great name, too. Thanks everyone!

Now if Lady Bomb would ONLY have her foal....

Couldn't you sell shares in him and keep in interest to race? Or some other creative arrangement? Seems a shame to have to let him go.
