What's the recipe for umbilical dip?

Postby TB Dreamin' » Sun Apr 08, 2007 10:22 am

Hello, fellow foaling friends,

I mix my own umbilical solution w/iodine and saline and I can't remember what the ratios are. I have a strong feeling that it is 5 parts iodine to 2 parts saline solution/water, but can't remember for sure.

Can somebody help me out?

Thanks-

30 days away from my Najran baby,

Amy

Chlorhexidine (Novalsan) is also good for dipping navels. A 0.5% solution is recommended.

We also just use straight Betadine, you want to use it full strength so as not to reduce it's effect.

We use the strong iodine (I think it is 7%, but I am having a brain cramp from working too much so could be wrong). We get those plastic cups that they give you in restaurants for tarter sauce or ketchup (with the little covers) and just dip them that way - very fast, easy and gives excellent coverage.

Don't you serve that with Meconium Mash?
