Prayers needed
Tonight tragedy struck our farm....our beautiful yearling filly went through the fence, we do not know why. It is really bad, she cannot be sutured nothing left on her hind legs to suture. Vet here, blood everywhere, all she will do is nuzzle me, oh god this really hurts ......we had so much counting on her...she has always been very special. I look at her and my stomach rolls, Why her?? my poor baby.

Ah Tammy - so sorry to hear this. What will they do? Wrap it? Didn't I read somewhere on here about using saved placenta for cases such as this (or am I losing my mind - which wouldn't surprise me none). Keeing you in my thoughts and prayers. Please keep us posted on how she is doing!

Well we made it through the night....the vet said wrap wrap wrap.....I knew when we had a chance to save her sisters placenta we should have but we were not sure what we were doing so decided to dispose of it.....urrrr. When the vet was here it took twice as much tranq to put her in a relaxed state, as it does to put our stallion to a deep sleep, he couldnt believe her he said she is one tough girl! said if we can keep the wounds clean, iodine cool rinses and tight tight wrap, and penicillen we have hope. she has already tore the bandage down so back to wrap after she eats her breakfast. She only wanted in the other field ......as far as we can figure??? she has always been a jumper, since she was a baby...this isnt the first time she misjudged how much she could really jump.....weird thing is when we bought her mamma they told us that storm cat foals are hard to keep ......if we could keep them safe and out of the fences we would get a racer.....we have done everything to try and keep our fences safe.....she was just determined to have it her way. Just checked on her....my gosh she doesn't limp, she acts like what the heck is all the fuss!! But she does know that she doesnt like the needle....that was so traumatic for her....I do love Thoroughbreds....she is so smart tough and has to have it her way.....she made my husband and I really love her today she is a trooper.....a fighter she is my "bad Cat".

Hi Tammy,
I'm so happy that she made it thru the night!!! That's a relief of the first step, right? Just gotta go day by day, but my goodness, she sounds like a fighter. I bet she'll be one of those "no phaze" type of girls who will just handle it in stride.
Is she a Storm Cat daughter? Is she named? Cause I like Bad Cat!
Good luck, you are in my thoughts and prayers!

Glad she made it through the night Tammy! If you can keep the infection down and the dirt out she'll probably be fine would be my guess. Keeping them wrapped is a whole 'nother thing though as most of them hate the dressings but they do get used to them eventually. Did he put her on stall rest - sometimes that is worse for them (trust me - my Tapit filly was on stall rest and it was a damn nightmare!!!). Will continue to keep you in my thoughts and hope things go well for her. I swear if there is one thing they can do to get into trouble they will find it. Mine come in every afternoon with one ding or another on them. Thank goodness nothing too serious yet but it is my worse nightmare! Good vibes coming your way - hugs too!!!

My thoughts have been with you since I first read your post yesterday. I hope that she is letting you help her. If nothing was broken, she will probably heal in time. It will just be a lot of work and love on your end. I am sure that you can do it. Keep us informed. You have a support group out on this forum. Good luck.

uhhh.. we probably have placenta pieces in the freezer ... if nothing else works.. but it might be difficult to ship in 90 degree days..
and i doubt we would have enough left to work for you..
maybe someone else is expecting a foal near you.. ?
call your vet he should know if someone else is expecting a baby!

almost a week
Want to hear something pitiful.....I have her so spoiled...I am not sure anyone can touch her but me.....everyone else comes in the barn and she absolutely goes nuts...I walk in and today she nuzzled me while Iwas trying to feed....I am the one who does bandage changes and so does my husband and my son always assist....we all feed....so what is up??? I know she is going stir crazy and we have done allot of walks with her given her toys etc....the leg is grossssss...I will get a picture but for some reason all my photos are blurred now on photobucket???? and being of little computer knowledge I can't figure out how to fix it!!! Anyway we have made it 6 days two days without Pen, I keep praying, she is a looney girl .....so was her mamma....but she ran like the dickens so maybe just maybe her daddy gave her some brains but its looking a little shy on that end
She doesnt even know she is hurt no limp nothing....ahhh THANKYOU everyone.....dont know how I would have made it through without someone to share with ......all wishes held close to my heart thankyou.
