Well I did it today. When he came up to me and attempted to suck on my face I smacked his little nose. I apologized as I know its a problem I created but figured we better put an end to it now. When he tried to lay in my lap I stood up so there was no longer a lap to lay on. It was fun while it lasted though!

Well you know his mama would have treated him the same way. She'd have tolerated (welcomed?) some stuff when he was brand new, and then shut the door when he got a little older and ruder. Just like you did.

Yeh, but wouldn't it be fun if they could stay little just a little longer????

My other mare Lisa (Liso Y Sedoso) foaled early this morning in PA. She had a Buddha colt. Good thing he is pretty because not many of them are runners. I am excited to see him anyway, maybe tomorrow.

Congrats on the other foal! Buddha may be a poor sire of racehorses but that's some clever inbreeding you have in the foal and that family on the mare has lots of backclass.

Lisa was the fastest horse I ever trained but she displaced horribly. The surgeries were temporary fixes that allowed us to see flashes of her brillance.

Congrats Laurierace on the newest edition! Perhaps this one can "suck face" just once

Looks like we are going to lose the colt in PA. The vet bills are piling up and there is still no diagnosis. Next step would be $1000 workup at the hospital and go from there. I just can't afford anymore. Poor little guy.

OMG!!!! When the phone rang just now and it was the farm owner I obviously was expecting the worst. Our plan was to give him until tomorrow to turn the corner and if there was no improvement to put him down. If he got really painful before then they would call the vet out sooner of course. That is what I figured the phone call was about.
No. Apparently Josh had a runny stool all down his legs this afternoon (Impaction breaking up?) And has been fine ever since. She was watching him on the camera and he was bucking around the stall, then nursing, then nosing at the hay during our conversation! I am not going to get my hopes up too high but its hard not to see that as a turn for the better. Thanks so much for the jingles!

What excellent news! I hope he continues to improve.

Horses will figure out a way to surprise you every day. Isn't it great when it's a nice surprise for a change? :)

That's good news. Seems there has been a lot of sadness lately so it's good to have some updates of the other kind!

What a cutie. And glad to hear about Josh pulling through. I saw your thread on COTH about him.

I have the results from an experiment I never meant to take part in. With all the drama surrounding Nick's birth I forgot to deworm Jess with ivermectin within 12 hours of foaling. I finally remembered the next day. I now am dealing with my first case of foal scours in over a decade.
