By Laura's Lucky Boy to our allowance winning mare Montana Rose (Golden Missile) , a nice chestnut colt around 1 am. Up on his own, running around the stall, nursing like crazy, and Rosie, who is a maiden mare, is handling everything great! She retained the placenta, but finally discharged it, intact, around 9 am.
We've named him 'Monty'.
The chestnut colour somewhat baffled us, until we looked up her pedigree and realized that Golden Missile is chestnut, and she also has Terlingua (Secretariat) on her dam's side.
This is Monty this morning, running around his stall. Because of our terrible cold, rainy weather, he has not been able to get outside yet, but hope to get him out this afternoon, as we have actually had a whole day without rain! There is a grass paddock waiting for him, so he doesn't need to wade through six inches of mud!
