Laura's Lucky Boy-Montana Rose-He's got legs!

Postby Maureen » Tue Apr 19, 2011 10:41 am

By Laura's Lucky Boy to our allowance winning mare Montana Rose (Golden Missile) , a nice chestnut colt around 1 am. Up on his own, running around the stall, nursing like crazy, and Rosie, who is a maiden mare, is handling everything great! She retained the placenta, but finally discharged it, intact, around 9 am.

We've named him 'Monty'.

The chestnut colour somewhat baffled us, until we looked up her pedigree and realized that Golden Missile is chestnut, and she also has Terlingua (Secretariat) on her dam's side. :)

This is Monty this morning, running around his stall. Because of our terrible cold, rainy weather, he has not been able to get outside yet, but hope to get him out this afternoon, as we have actually had a whole day without rain! There is a grass paddock waiting for him, so he doesn't need to wade through six inches of mud!

He is quite cute, not that I'm biased or anything. :P Although you can't see it in these pictures, he even has a pink spot on his bottom lip, so we've got some colour genes going on somewhere! And do you see this size of that butt!

Very nice! Gosh everyone's had full moon foals except me... GiGi just would NOT lie down last night and let that baby out to play.

Has to be from LLB, as the mare is pretty much a plain bay. We were quite surpised by the amount of white, escpecially the big pink spot on his bottom lip.

Finally got outside to stretch those legs. Monty has the nicest, loping canter we have seen in a foal!
