Does anyone know if she's sold yet?? If not, can someone PM me the phone number, contact person, etc.??

I'm in NH and am interested... I'm actually in shock, as I may have *finally* convinced my husband... hoping I'm not too late!! :(

OMG!!!!! :D

According to the last post, she was going to be listed on CANTER, so I checked Canter New England and they list her as SOLD...
So Run for the Roses, as fast as you can.....

As far as I can tell, it's the same listing they've had from the first time she sold (it's one of the sites I check often). So I'm hoping someone will know, as I don't have any of the seller's info yet to find out! :D

I made a concerted effort to acquire and ship this filly , however the situation seemed very cloudy in that that original owner had sold her to the current owner without the papers and specified that she was not to race. I understand her feelings but I thought that if you went to extremes to acquire what seems to be an unwanted horse that you should have all options open and should have proof of ownership in your hands. Anyway if I thought that the filly was a rescue case then I would certainly have acted quickly, however the current owner seems to be responsible and a good caretaker so it seems just a matter of time before she finds a good home even if she is a cribber. Keep me posted and good luck with her.

Livermore Dream has been donated to CANTER New England as an adoptive placement horse. This means that (unlike the horses listed on the CANTER site who are being sold directly by their trainers) she cannot be used to breed for racing. She can be adopted as a broodmare for sporthorse breeding. She should be up on the CANTER NE adoption page soon. Hope this helps. Skeenan, Suffolk Downs opens next month I believe so there should be lots of nice horses coming back and for sale.

Okay.... I don't get it.

She can be used as a broodmare to produce sporthorses... and I suppose just about anything else someone wants to "produce", with the one and only exception being the production of racehorses? Is this, basically, the premise?

Surely this has to do with her prior owner and the JC Papers. I cannot believe Canter would have this type of rather ridiculous restriction. Does anyone know for certain? Is this the case?

Perhaps she simply should not be producing at all...

It is my understanding that CANTER's *adoptive* horses (not those being sold by trainers through the web site) cannot be bred for racing, because the adoptive horses, unlike the sale horses, have been taken into ownership by CANTER - a nonprofit organization that is supposed to help horses transition from, not into, racing.

CANTER works with members of the racing industry (like the trainers and owners who list their horses for sale separate from the adoption program; CANTER doesn't control the sales of those horses, the trainers do.), and is not at all an anti-racing group, but their mission is to help TBs into new careers away from the track. Not to take on Racehorse X, who probably didn't do so well on the track, and adopt them out to have them create more racehorses who are likely to themselves need placement someday...

I think that is the reasoning behind that restriction. It makes sense to me.

That isn't to say that there aren't horses on the various CANTER sites who are very well bred from a racing standpoint, and might have been talented winners who got hurt...nor to say that horses who'd probably make lousy racing producers can't produce some knockout sporthorses or pleasure prospects. I've seen both types come off the track at all levels of racing.

AAAAAGGGHHHHHH!!!!! :o
(can you hear my anguish from here?!?!?)

*sigh*...

... you're right, though... I've seen a lot of nice horses go through, and if I don't find one over the summer I'm going to keep an eye out when Northampton rolls around again...

Thanks for the replies, I hope she goes to a good home this time!

I looked on the CANTER site to see what their adoption requirements are, for the heck of it... they mention breeding, even on the application, but you'd think they'd be more specific...?

Even if they allowed it, it doesn't solve the issue with her papers...

Oh well... things happen for a reason! :D
