But the only thing I can think is they thought that a TB broodmare that is also riding sound would bring more money down there, which to me makes no sense.. TX is QH country, the mare isn't big enough for crossing wtih QH's for an APDX, so basically I think they're going to find that they won't bring any more money than they passed up here.
And, if they can't sell her, then what...?
According to the reps at the North Texas sale Cool Notes sold for $875 last night. Seems like that would be safely out of kill buyer range.
As for Val's Love hopefully someone snapped her up before she could leave for Texas. She has a fantastic pedigree and with all the internet networking, quite possibly she was bought as a racing broodmare. I would hope that Crowleys wouldn't be foolish enough (won't get into the moral implications) to send her to slaughter (and if they would not sell her for less than $600 to legit buyers, no way would they get more than $600 from a kill buyer) instead of sending her through the same sale as Cool Notes, so if she didn't go through that sale, probably she was bought privately.

I just bought a 4 yo TB mare out from under the meat guy for $400 up here. I would think $800 down there would be way out of meat range. I bought a reg'd QH mare for a friend for $300 (10yr old), and I bid a 4 yo QH race bred gelding up to $600 out from the meat guy. I would have brought him home too but some other people bought him as a barrel prospect. A 19 yo TB mare went for $300 (I was bidding on her too). She went to a nice couple who wanted to breed her for a WB foal. There is another auction on April 16th. Of course I will be going! So far I have gotten 4 horses out of harms way since December, two i bought from the meat mans yard. One I have sold, one is for sale. The new mare I may breed, or sell, I am not sure yet.
