**ALL PLACED!**- Jade Hunter & Banker's Gold mares, stal

Postby Waquoit » Sat Nov 11, 2006 5:17 pm

There are two mares and a stallion at Suffolk Downs who are being offered as "very cheap, probably free" urgent cases. All will go to auction if not placed in the next couple of days, according to the trainers. :(

Here are their details:
_____________________________________________________________

JADE DANCER, 2001 bay mare, 15.2 hands
No photo available, sorry (trainer just called CANTER). Great disposition. Trainer says no issues except she recently sustained a flesh wound on her pastern that will need some time to heal. Should be fine for any discipline after recovering.

**Horse will go to auction by Wed. if not placed - please call Monica (trainer trying to convince the owner to let the horse go to a good home for cheap or even free, vs. auction) at 617-913-6872.

what auction??

Postby bayponys » Sat Nov 11, 2006 6:49 pm

As much as I like to see tbs find homes, isn't this getting absurd? What auction are they going to on Wednesday? There are a lot of owners and trainers looking to place horses without going to the extreme of threatening auctions .... and I ask again...what auction in Ma on Wednesday, as I'd love to go to it myself. Sorry if it sounds uncaring, but, as I said already, there are a lot of us out there trying to move our tbs that are at the end of their careers.

It is not a threat. Without going into a lot of detail on a public forum, the meat dealer has already been contacted about these horses and is scheduled to pick them up later this week if private homes aren't found beforehand. He already made a deal to buy 3 for $500 total and is coming back with cash in hand for the other on Wednesday...where do you think they'll be going at less than $200 per horse?

Anyone who wants more details can PM me. But let me assure you this is not a "threat." These horses are in real danger. Now. The owners will give these horses away to a private home if one presents beforehand - but if not - that is where they'll be going.

I applaud, as I'm sure everyone else does, those trainers who do NOT consider this as an acceptable option. Sadly, there are still those who do. I wish that weren't the case. I certainly don't enjoy making these types of posts.

OK so now it's not an "auction", it's a private sale to a dealer. I'm not disbelieving you Waquoit but these kinds of posts are everywhere now and it may be the unscrupulous posts will get in the way of people responding to the real situations. But it sure seems that some people like to play the slaughter card to try to move a cheap horse fast--whether the truck is really coming or not. For people like bayponys trying to find good homes for their horses honestly, this has got to be frustrating.

The dealer will buy them and then take them to an auction. That's a fact, confirmed by multiple sources (including the trainer of Jade Dancer - she's trying to find the horse a good home before the owner seals the deal with the meat man); this is a "real situation."

I know it's frustrating for good trainers/owners like Bayponys, who deserve to be applauded for doing the right thing and not stooping to this level.

However, if horses are in trouble, they need all the publicity they can get. I also know sometimes trainers threaten auction for that quick sympathy sale, but that isn't the case here. It's not a threat. The trainers will even give the horses away, but if they're not gone ASAP, the sale with the dealer will continue as planned.

Anyone who would like more details is welcome to PM me.

Please let us know how it turns out... I actually like that little Jade Hunter mare but distance is a stopping factor for me in this case.

I'm sure it is very frustrating to those of you who are trying honestly to place horses. I know Waquoit, and know that a situation would not be posted unless there were a confirmed, true threat to the horses. It's sad.

And I'm sure there are plenty who "cry wolf" to make a quick sale... esp. those horses whose price suddenly jumps up when folks start calling... we've all seen it.

But on the flip side, if these horses can be given to a new home, isn't it possibly worth it to someone? Regardless of the circumstances, it could be a great opportunity for the right person...

I noticed this guy is also an urgent, "make any offer" gelding... he has old osselets, but would be a *gorgeous* on-the-flat horse:
