Need advice on selling a thoroughbred broodmare

Postby JenMike » Fri Apr 27, 2007 11:11 am

We've got a thoroughbred mare called Nanny Doon - found her pedigree on this site. We're 'cob' people and don't know the first thing about thoroughbreds, their breeding, or their worth!

We would like to move her on to a more discerning home, but we don't know what she's worth. With her pedigree, proven ability to breed foals (she's got a 10 month old colt with her now), and the fact she's sound to ride (though she's not been ridden for a couple of years now), can anyone tell us what we should be asking, where's the best place to advertise, and anything else we should be aware of. All advice gratefully received!

Thanks!

There is a pretty strong market breeding cobs to TB's. They make nice hunters. Just a thought.
All men are equal on the turf - or under it.

the local market would be the best place to advertise her. Give her some time under saddle and sell her to a good riding home. That would be the best place for her, no so much the commercial breeding market.

I breed using a lot of foreign pedigrees, so I would be interested in her for $1500. Let me know if you are interested and where she is located.
