opinion on mares
Sorry..... their names are Classino and Gracie Lu Freebush...what would they cross well with?
I really like Classino with Andromeda's Hero. They produce a A+ Nick on the Fusaichi Pegasus- Vice Regent cross. That same nick produced 800k yearling Chief Running Bear. Who is a 1/2 to Marquetry.
Gracie Lu crosses well with Roaring Fever. He will have his first two year olds hit the track in 2008. These two produce a A werk nick rating, based on the very popular Storm Cat - Mr. Prospector cross. Whih has produced such horses as Tale of the Cat - gr 3 and sire. Catienus - graded stakes placed and leading NY sire 2006, and 2007. Finder's Fee - 708k earner and multi grade 1 winning filly, and Storm Surge - graded stakes winner of over 470k and sire.

Hey Crystal did you actually look up the mares before you made your selfish little recommendations. Your suggestions definitely make you the winner in any breeding that "Bayponys" will do.
Bayponys ... as a breeder myself, I would advise you not to breed these two mares.
Gracie Lu is unraced and her dam Catamount has produced nothing to speak of. According to APR of '07... no winners to date. As a matter of fact, Catamount was unraced herself.
Classino is also an unraced mare and has also an uninspiring produce record.
You are setting yourself up for a major expense and you will get next to nothing when you go to sell them either privately or in a yearling sale.
Without offending you, I advise you not to bred these two mares and stay away from recommendations from people like Crystal. She is more interested in selling seasons to her studs than the returns you get from your foals.

That was not necessary. I just got done reminding people in another thread, that you started, that it is OK to disagree with someone but not OK to be rude about it... in protection of your opinions.

Umm, Crystal, Gracie Lu Freebush is, herself, a product of the Mr. Prospector/Storm Cat cross, and there is already quite enough of that in the mare. I will save any comments on the other because I am NO fan of FuPeg or any of his offspring.
bayponys, it is not really all THAT bleak. Classino is half to a couple of decent horses. The question, really, is what is your goal for the offspring of these two mares? Will you raise them, race them yourself, and provide homes for them if they don't win? Do you keep your mares or board them out? I only ask because the costs are very different.
You mentioned that Classino is 17h. What is her conformation like? A lot of very tall horses do not make it to a single race. Typically that type tends to be all legs, with insufficient length through the back and depth of girth to offset the height. When you DO get it all together in a very big horse, look out! Is she a very pretty mover? If so you could move toward a sporthorse... If your goal is to breed a racehorse, you should consider looking for a stallion that is smaller and will offset her weaknesses. Something with substance and balance. Two of the five graded stakes winners out of Regal Classic mares were by Mr. Prospector line horses. The two good horses out of Classino's dam were by a Fappiano horse, and a Dixieland Band horse. Budget wise, I would not throw the checkbook at this mare, but aim to spend absolutely no more than $5K (actually something around $3500). A horse that looks very interesting for her is Banker's Gold, who is priced at $3500 and standing in PA.
Regarding the other mare, Gracie Lu Freebush, it is a long way back to blacktype in her family. Also, she is a maiden mare and particularly with a mare like this I caution my clients NOT to spend a lot on that first stud fee. Rather, treat it like gambling dollars. Look, once again, for a stallion that physically will cross well with her conformation. But I would consider beating the bushes nearby and see what falls out that you could get her to for under $2K. Something maybe Seattle Slew to offset all that Mr. Prospector in her. Avoid inbreeding Storm Cat.
Best of luck to you!

wow that was pretty harsh! Bayponys if you are doing this to breed to race, or for your own personal reasons go for it! I like your Regal Classic mare...Crystal has quite a few stallions that have Mr. P and should have some pretty good fits for her. Take peoples responses on here as oppinions, and also as help, knowledge etc.. but you have to sort through it! Just because someone dislikes Storm Cat, Northern Dancer, Fu Peg, Pulpit, etc.. really doesnt play into breeding. they all have good offspring, and their stud fees, and stats reflect that. my mares are nothing great, and theres people here that need to look at their own stock before they critisize others! even some that have their own stallion's on here can pute down a top notch stallion, but themselves be feeding one that nobody has heard of! breed your mares if you want to get into this.. have fun with it. your financial buisness, or how you spend your money is no ones concern..talk to Crystal she may have something to offer you!

breeding to race you can have fun with her dont get sucked into a lot of money!
I like the followingfor Classino:
and im no expert, im rather new at this so i dont exactly follow the norm..
I like Jackson, by Private Terms out of a Mr. P mare. Bold ruler is getting harder to find up close and for no reason I like Private Terms..
I like legion field, hes not well advertised, he is a full brother to Leestown, half brother to Grand Slam and Wild West..he has a great female family and has 19 reines-de-course in his first 5 generations and he may not be to costly.
Performing Magic also looks good! and i believe Crystal can help you there also as well as Yankee Mon, for $2,500. twice stakes-placed. A $395,000 Fasig-Tipton Kentucky July yearling, he retired with five wins and four placings from 20 races and earnings of $222,716
Maria's Mon has been good with Northern Dancer-which he does not cary- particularly through Dixieland Band,Storm Bird/Storm Cat, Vice Rregent wich your mare has..
are you in NY?

Classino has some female family behind her but was sent to the very good stallions Two Punch twice and Langfhur once and produced one starter who broke it's maiden for $15000 then switched to hurdles with little success. I would say breeding her to produce a racehorse is a longshot.
Gracie Lu Freebush, along with several siblings tried and failed to even break their maidens. Gracie's mom and siblings didn't do any better so you have two successive generations that showed little aptitude for racing.
If you're determined to breed I would invest in an inexpensive proven stallion.

Contradictions?

My apologies bayponys.... by all means breed your two mare according to the recommendations of nythoroughbredvz or crystal. I don't want to go down in history as the one that stopped you from breeding the next Secretariat or Sir Gaylord.
I have bred some poorer quality mares to some decent studs and was extremely disappointed when they went through the sales. Sorry, but none turned out to be Syrian Sea or Grand Coulee.
You go ahead and follow their advice. It's just that I do not share in their vision.

NO, not at all... he ended his stallion career as a $5,000 dollar stud fee. He wasnt a top sire by any means. I just have always liked him, as well as Regal Classic... a contradiction would be something a little farther up on this post!
