I will get pictures as soon as I can... my apologies for not having them!
I am currently located in MA and will be moving to CA and I simply can not bring the mare all that way. Even if I could get her over there I'm living in an area where I just don't feel she'd be happy.
Her name is Kathyspersonalhope she is bay and stands approx. 16h (on a tall day).
Pedigree: http://www.pedigreequery.com/kathyspersonalhope
She IS rideable *however* she had a series of unfortunate events starting early last summer... so she's not 100 percent sound. She'll be fine for trails and light ring work. I think with the use of adequan and supportive shoeing with her hinds she could be ok with light jumping and lower level dressage work. Her unsoundness does not stem from a conformational issue it's injury.
She's not a terribly hard keeper... she currently gets grass pasture and about 10-15lbs of hay at night. She is prone to ulcers which causes her to crib. She is a very light cribber... it gets worse if she's not fed enough forage, but right now it's so slight I don't even use a collar on her. I also feed her about 5lbs of Nutrena XTN, and would like her to stay on that food =) I would prefer her to go to someone who likes to feed a lot of forage.
She is maiden but she is a decently put together mare, she does toe out very slightly, but it's hardly noticeable and she tracks straight. HUGE overstep at the walk. Her dam didn't do much, but she did produce 2 daughters that went on to produce winners (Bamboo Forest and Tooosalty). Her granddam was pretty good... dam of Rock Point who is a IHF nominated sire as well as a stakes winner. Rock Point stood at VA Tech for a while and is a really good looking guy (and Katy looks a lot like him). I know it's a big risk taking on a maiden mare but I do think she would have potential there... if there is anyone out there breeding in this icky economy.
Price... I don't want money. I will not except money. If you can provide a good home (with references) and promise to send an email every once in a while letting me know how she is she's yours. HOWEVER, you can not sell her... if you need to downsize and she's gotta go she comes back to me. I will however allow you to give her away to another party *if* I am allowed maintain contact with this new person and they are willing to abide by the same rules. If you breed her the resulting progeny are of course your property.
Katy is only 8 and she could have a productive life ahead of her. She's healthy and up to date on all her shots, floating and farrier. She bathes, clips, ties, stands for the vet... loves people. She is pretty easy to handle but she does have her frisky moments, so I would stop short and say she'd be ok for a complete novice. She is not one to kick or be aggressive in a herd *HOWEVER* she will NOT back down from a fight (hence the series of unfortunate events). She can not go out with aggressive horses. She would, however, be great companion to elderly geldings, or even be a great babysitter for the weaners.
I am moving August 1... I would like to find her a home by then. So if you or anyone you know might be interested PM me. It breaks my heart to have to do this, but she's young and she needs a job and people around her. I don't want to leave her in MA to rot in some field and not have anyone to love on her. I might be willing to help with shipping to the right home
Thanks!

Does this mean you WOULD pay to ship her to CA if her new home didn't want her anymore?
I took two mares in on this kind of deal ... run the other way.
So Run for the Roses, as fast as you can.....
It would cost me a couple thousand to move her to CA, in addition the area I am moving (San Francisco) has very little quality pasture... and very few barns offer good turn out. I'd have to move her quite a distance from where I would be living so I wouldn't be able to see her often. I wanted to take her with me, but researching my options I just don't think she'd be happy at.
Yes, if financial disaster came upon the person that took her and they needed to unload her I'd have her out within 30 days. I would prefer that she'd go to a long term home. I don't want her shuffling from home to home all her life. I wish my life hadn't taken this course where I HAD to make the decision to do this.
She's healthy and rideable (although not a high level prospect). She too much horse for a beginner, and she's really not appealing to a serious rider because of her limitations. She, unfortunately, one of those horses that isn't very marketable. I fear a greedy resaler will snatch her up and dump her because she won't pass a PPE, or some novice will end up with her and dump her because she was a bit too much horse for them. (she doesn't rear, buck, bite, bolt or kick... but she is forward and that can be intimidating).
So if I'm asking too much... what would you suggest? Of course I could move her with me, but I'd rather try and do right by her and find her a nice home with someone to love on her all the time and good turnout, but perhaps that is setting my hopes too high.

I just think you have way too many conditions. If you are giving her away, you are GIVING HER AWAY. Walk away. Don't expect to be able to look back. Otherwise, bite the bullet and take her with you.
I will never EVER again accept a "free" mare that I will pay to feed, breed, care for, etc., without a full transfer (signed bill of sale, even if it is for a buck, plus signed Jockey Club papers). Been there, done that, WON'T do that again.

I agree, if you are going to give her away it has to be with a full break. You can always ask for first "buy" back option if the new owners ever have to place her in a new home. I may be able to help you out but well I'd have to have "full custody" of her so to say and you'd have to have her shipped here but we do run a rescue along with my own personally owned horses. I may be able to use her for breeding along with some trail riding, not sure though you'd have to tell me what is medically wrong with her and i'd like to se pictures as well. You can view our website @ http://milestonefarmsandequinerescue.fa ... fault.aspx and fill out the general information for along with the release form. Let us know. I have room for 4 more horses until I place some of my rescues and then i'll be able to take in more.

I don't think she is asking too much. Everyone is so worried about all the tb's that fall through the cracks and end up at auctions and slaughter. Here is an owner that wants to keep track of a mare that she is giving away, and she is being told that she is asking too much!? She apparently does not have a marketable mare, and I give her kudos for wanting to do the right thing for this mare.

Buy Back clauses won't hold up in court =( That is the reason why I won't accept money. She's being given away under the condition that she is not to be resold (again she could be *given away* to a new home so long as it's known to me and I can just keep tabs on where she is). I guess my only concern is that someone might get into a situation where they don't have the money to take care of her-- I want them to know I will always be there to help in any way possible.
As far as a clean break... I DO want a clean break I would prefer her to go to a good life long home. I am not in a position to repo a horse just because it suits my fancy. She would go with the papers--they'd go wherever she goes (including back to me if it came to that).
As far as her issues...
2 rear broken splint bones (the kicks that broke the splint bones also have caused trauma to the hocks-- one kick was 2 years ago and hadn't caused me issue the other she sustained last summer a different story ), and puncture wound to a rear fetlock joint-- capsule was punctured as well as some soft tissue damage. I spent several thousand dollars to make her better... she was injected with hylartin in her fetlock last year and it helped lots! With supportive hind shoes and joint support with adequan I'm sure she will be sound for light work-- no big jumps or too much collected work. She's going comfortably walk/trot on the lunge... I admit to being scared to try cantering her on such a small circle. My 11 year old daughter can ride her.
She can not be out with aggressive horses... currently she goes out with a pony mare and arab gelding and they all get along great never a kick mark or bite on any of them. Mini's Mom posts on this forum knows the mare and knows me-- so she can vouch for the fact that I'm not a shady character.
So there you have it... she's an athletic mare and a nice mover. She just got dealt a crappy hand. I would not have a "lease contract" a mile long, it's very simple I'm not profiting off her sale you don't either. Her "price" is that I want the luxury to stay in contact with her and I am allowed to help in the event that she is no longer wanted. I suppose it's not gonna happen, but I gotta try =)

Please don't take it that I'm being a jerk - it's just that the following is from your website...
For Sale: 3 soon to be 4 year old Registered AQHA 15 Hands Mare "Azi". Her Sire is Promis me a Chip. Also has Azure and Te N Te bloodlines as well. She is VERY well breed. Broke to ride and has been ridden by beginners and advanced riders without any issues. Very sweet. Very beatiful mare. Only vice is that she kicks at the other horses and I have small children so sadly I am offering her for sale. She is very well mannered under saddle but she is starting to get my other horses kicking. But she really is an AWESOME mare. For sale for $3500.00 and I reserve the right to breed her to one of my stallions and I get the foal or $4500.00 with no breeding. She is my 8 year old daughter's own personal mare. Trust me she wouldn't be offered for sale if it wasn't for the one bad habit. Will be sold with contract stating I have first Refusal should she ever be sold and that I get one breeding and the foal. Please email if you have any questions or would like to see more pictures. Thanks for looking!
...and Katydid is putting too many conditions on a horse that she is GIVING away?
I don't understand how a "buy-back option" would work if the horse would come with no strings - "full custody". What would determine the amount of the "buy-back"?
Katydid, I hope you find a loving home for your mare. It's obvious that is your intention.

Yes I do have one request for the sale of Azi "only 1 though" which will be stated on the Bill of Sale (if she sells but i'm not pushing) but I, like the other person who posted, have been burnt by taking in a "free" horse and ended up with a lot of not so free legal fees because of it!!! So now all horses that come to us are required to come under contract and my suggestion, because of personal experience, is to demand a contract in this situation as well. It's best for all parties involved and can save everyone a lot of heartache down the road. I'm not trying to be difficult either, i'm just speaking from my own experience.
I also agree with Derby Lyn that this person is trying to accomplish something that many on this board push for: a responsible, accountable thoroughbred owner that cares about the placement of his/her horses. So what that she's asking to keep in contact??? If that's too much for the new potential owner to acept, then they should just move on! I think it's great to see someone who is this vested in the future of her horse - stipulations and all!!! I applaud you Katydid!

life time lease
The thing that has worked for me in the past is a " LIFE TIME LEASE "
THIS MEANS THAT YOU LEASE THE HORSE FOR AS LONG AS THE HORSE LIVES OR AS LONG AS YOU WANT TO KEEP THE HORSE. If you want to give up the horse ,it comes back to me. Some horses I have leased for a $1 and some for a lot more. Only had two come back so far. Everyone is happy with the deal and the horses are doing fine. I can sleep at night knowing they will not be passed around or end up a that d-- S----- house.

It all depends on the person that she goes too. I stay in contact with everyone that I have taken in a horse for and also horses that I have purchased. I send updates and pictures periodically letting the previous owners know how they are doing. Just make sure that you do a very thorough screening if at all possible before you place her at a new home. We wish you the best and hopefully you will find her a good forever home.
There is a sporthorse breeders group at http://uncouthbb.com/forum/ . You might want to post her there. Be sure to emphasize the Rock Point connection as many of them breed for the hunters. Good luck finding her a home.
