Postby OnlineRacingClub » Fri Jan 21, 2005 7:23 am

We are looking to sell a 7yo chestnut mare by In Case out of a Shipping Magnate mare. This mare has earned 115K on the racetrack and her dam is a full sister to a stakes placed winner. Very nice, big, correct mare. I wil be away from my office this upcoming week, but please call 1-888-777-0422 and leave a message and i will get back to you asap. Please call between 12pm and 7pm eastern and when you leave a message, please make sure you tell me what time zone you are in since i will be on the west coast for the week. You may see a picture of this mare on our web site http://www.onlineracingclub.com. If you inquire by email i may not be able to get back to you until the week of the 31st. We will run her one more time and she will be ready to be picked up on Feb. 3rd or 4th. $3,000

I took the liberty of fixing the link for you, hope you don't mind. I just noticed that the period at the end of the sentence was included in the link, so I put the period after the link... works now!

Why are you selling this mare? She has a win, a 2nd, and a 4th from 3 starts since you claimed her. Does she have a bow? Does she have flap problems? Is she a bleeder? Whats the deal? Why would you sell a horse whose making money?

We are selling this mare as a broodmare prospect, since we think it is time for her to have a new career. She is a hard trying mare, with no major physical problems. She runs for the bottom tag at Charles Town, so unless she wins every time out, she does not make a lot of money for our club. Our club likes to turn horses over with us making a profit (as owners that's our goal) if possible and we don't like to beat on horses we own. Our club tries to do what is best for each of our horses and we have choosen that she would make a really nice broodmare. If you would like to race her you are welcome to do that, but we think her future is as a mother.

8500 dollars in 3 starts is not bad money. But why would you claim a horse for $2500? Most $2500 horses are on there last leg to begin with and theres no room to drop a horse like this if need be.

it looks like you are still racing this mare every two weeks. I thought she was in need of a career change. So much for that thought.

This was an interesting thread as here we had a "business- style" racing club looking for an out on a hard knocking mare. I had to laugh as the club said that you must win consistently to make money for the club. What nonsense!!!! Charles Town gives away the best purses in the nation in relation to minimum claiming prices. Thats why if you check the results thru the free Equibase Results Site you will see that Charles Town Horses are going dizzy as they are changeing barns regularly thru the claim box. Thats why the Michael Gill claiming circus has an outpost there!! I would think that reading between the lines that this horse has had enough but the current owners want that last chance to grind out enough purse money to pay the final bill. Having said that I do respect the fact that they have gone to the trouble of seeking a dignified career change for the animal, many scumbags out there dont give a rats ass. Unfortunately they get far more press than the horse lovers that also make a living in this pastime.Oh Brooke, learn to ask questions its not a problem if everything is out in the open.

I personally don't feel claiming a horse for 2500 means it's the end of the line for it. We've made tons of money with horses we've claimed at the bottom. Sometimes they just need a little TLC and they can turn around (assuming you know what you are looking at in the paddock before claiming).

We took two older horses for 3500 and brought them back to win for 10k or better. Some younger ones we took for 4k and have won for 30k or allowance.

I agree I would be quite happy with that money! I'd take second or third in WV anyday!!

I'm not gonna get in an argument over expenses, but this mare costs roughly 2000 a month to keep on the racetrack. 2nd place in a 3000 claimer is 1800, so to make money we need the winners share or 5400, since there are many months she only races once. To update, we sold half of this mare and she will continue to run for a few months and then will have a good home.

2K a month for expenses for a 2500 mare u got to be kidding me. Thats about $65 a day for this horse. Either you have a large vet bill each month or your trainer is fukking you. Which is it?
