Hi TBLady,

I'm posting for a few reasons. Do you have any race information on her for 2004? My APR shows her unplaced in 1 start.

There's been some discussion about breed to race type of mares and Sandbar Sally is a nice prospect for this. The negative commercial appeal of her stallion, Bugatti Reef, (despite his nice pedigree and deep family), isn't much of a factor if you are breeding to race.

Her lack of a race record is a negative, but your explanation is reasonable, especially given the good success of her older siblings, and her dam.

This mare is actually a candidate to transition to a more commercial mare if her yearling sister, FAIRLY BRIGHT (f. 2003) by Numerous is an even better runner than her stakes placed older siblings.

What I REALLY like about this mare is that her 2 older siblings, Salquest and Sally Q are both stakes placed mares and Salquest is already a producer. Two big holes, Bugatti Reef and no race record to speak of, but 3 hard hitting mares in the first generation all working for you (Sally Q will hopefully hit the shed soon if not already - and she could run).

You've priced this filly fairly and anyone with a tight budget should look at Sally more closely. There's a lot to like here.

Can you give an accurate description of Sandbar Sally's conformation, perhaps any idea of how Salquest and SallyQ (older sisters) looked.

I just saw that her 4th dam is Virginia Dare so Sandbar Sally traces female tail to Fragrance then to Sweet Lavender.

Pete thank you so much...yes I know her sire is a bit of a downer...must have been a free breeding is all I can say. She is still a maiden with only a handful of starts I believe. This filly shipped into Mountaineer as a 2 yr old with very sore knees. As you had mentioned her two half sisters by Norquestor are blacktyped and one is now a producer...however her connections at the time pushed her I think a little beyond her development and ability...thus the soreness. I feel this filly has a nice developing female family who should help Sallys future as a broodmare. She has a TON of heart. During her Am works she was always a GO GETTER type...hated being passed and wnted to run down horses who were breezing. She just forgot about her bad knees. Her last trainer said she would never be sound unless she had some major time off. So the owners sold her and thus I need to move her to someone willing to breed her to the right sire. I tried to price her accordingly as I know maidens are a dime a doz. At this time she does look sound but I ahve not bene on her nor has anyone else in many weeks.

I do have someone looking at her this afternoon and I will let you know how that goes for us.

I'm not looking to make a killing off of this filly...obviously, I just want to see her get a second chance is all.

Sounds like you've pegged her right and for a breeder on a budget she makes sense. Good luck selling her.

Cathy, Bugatti is well bred and that's good when there isn't a race record to fall back on - nor a commercial name in that sire.

Sandbar Sallys conformation discription.....

GOOD sized mare with nice bone...profiles very nice. I didn't get a chance to put a stick on her...would guess 16h and a tad more. Nicely built. Nice hindend, strong through the girth and hip with a nice shoulder. I did see a little bit of off set in her rt knee. but she travels straight on it.


This is a solid built mare with a good bit of growing to do yet. She was looked at yesterday...the breeder who looked at her has a full barn and is working hard to sell her Time To Explode 1ylg filly to make room for Sally in her barn. So with that said, no money changed hands and Sally is still for sale. Price is down to $800 FIRM!
