Mares for sale or free (local only) lease

Postby Joie » Wed Feb 02, 2005 1:20 pm

I have 4 mares and I am looking to keep maybe one for myself this season to ride and breed. I would be more than open to a free lease within driving distance of me, in Northwest IL (I'd say I'd go up to 3-4 hours away, max, on a lease. I'm just not comfortable with distance leases yet.) I'd consider an open sale on any mare as well, with prices ranging from $1500-$2500.
All mare can be seen on my website:

3 of 4 are race winners. The two biggest winners are both maiden, but the third is a proven broodmare (non-TB).

If anyone has any interest, please do feel free to contact me privately at:

for details. They are all riding sound as well.

I have reduced my price on my 16hh TRUE black proven producer mare (APHA sporthorses, hunter/jumper). She is also sound and broke to ride, and would make a lovely riding buddy AND broodmare. I am asking only $1500 for her. I have many photos available. This mare is sweet, and easy to handle. Current on everything, no vices. Mr. Prospector, Forli, Damascus, Nasrullah, and Native Dancer blooslines. She is a lovely mare, and would make a super cross for warmbloods as well as AQHA and APHA, or TB.

1998 Proper Reality daughter, Granddaughter of Secretariat

Postby Joie » Thu Mar 03, 2005 2:28 pm

I have sold one mare, and leased one as an embryo transplant recipient. However, I still have a daughter of Proper Reality available for purchase. No lease considered at this time, sorry.

The particulars are:

15.2hh chestnut mare. 1998 PROPER SANDI by Proper reality. She was a good runner, earning about $11,884 on the track. She did have surgery to remove a knee chip, but raced sound after the surgery for 2 years until retiring in Fall of 2004. The race owner I purchased her from said she could move to a different track and WIN again, but I have no interest in that. (She was on a sloppy, deep track in S. IL). He said she could go to a faster track and do well. She preferred to run at 5 5 1/2 Furlongs from what I was told. I think she has good potential as a broodmare, though...and she is already retrained, and is very nice and quiet under saddle.

I am asking $2000 OBO on her, as I did have 60 days professional retraining put on her, but otherwise don't have an overly extravagant amount invested into her... This price does not reflect her quality. She would make a very nice broodmare for running bred quarter horses, or for warmblood breeding as well. (She is more of an event-type or hunter type mover, in my opinion. I am specifically breeding for dressage, or I would keep her for my own broodmare band.)

There is no rush on a sale with this mare. I enjoy riding her, and will continue to keep her as long as needed. She has been well-loved by her race owner and trainer, and she deserves a great home, above all. I just think she'd be a great producer for someone who is breeding specifically for race...or sport (eventing or hunters).

She can be seen on my website:

Thanks for your consideration. Please e-mail me for further information.

I will take $1500 firm, as my trainer is unable to take her this month, and I will be just taking her for lessons myself.
Thanks,
Joie
