Strike the Gold Broodmare

Postby foundationmare » Wed Sep 22, 2010 5:22 pm

Son and DIL have a Strike the Gold broodmare they are considering selling. She has beautiful progeny, a yearling colt and a weanling filly, both by Orville 'n Wilburs. Her name is Bequia Tequila. She's a beautiful mare, well tempered and an excellent broodmare.

Any input about her desirability?

I like the Strike the Gold connection, but a quick glance to her most immediate female family doesn't impress (at least in Pedigree Forum stats). there may be more in the full BRIS reports. Neither high earning well bred types (commercial) or consistent mult-start types (breed to race).

Telltale to me is that the dam Bevia (apparently unraced) was bred to nine different stallions, but save for Strike the Gold, the rest are mostly lower end. Not many runners let alone winners or stakes winners so the page wouldn't look good close up and probably racing ability would be questionable.

just my humble opinion.
Run the race - the one that's really worth winning.

I like her better than the previous post's author. Ole Liz as a third dam is awesome. Nice array of broodmare sires. The mare ran 55 times, and a few of her half sibs did as well with number of starts. May not catch the eye on a catalog page with a deficiency of black type, but may fit someone's regional breeding program well. That's my opinion, for what it's worth.

I would consider her for a sporthorse broodmare because she's a hardnocker. I'd need to see a decent conformation shot to know how she's put together and how she stands. I'd also want to know her height.
