Why, because he's by Acaroid? Not to me...

I'm just curious, seems astronomical in this market to me...wondered if I was missing something.

He's not even registered (therefore he doesn't have the name 'Big Machine' and he really doesn't have a pedigree).

The info in PQ is of course user entered and not official.

There was a live foal report filed but no registration was processed.

Even if he were registered the pedigree wouldn't give him any value for any purpose I can think of.

Not registerd...They are standing him at stud, and selling him as registered on equine.com.

Not a bad looking stud, but not for 20K!

It would cost a fair penny to register him at this point would it not?

Lawsuit...no kidding!
So $20,000 for an unregistered, unraced stallion. Wonder if he's had any luck!

Of course it's nothing new for horses to be advertised on EquineNow as Thoroughbreds and in the little box where it says registry they'll say jockey club even though they don't have papers or even the horses real name - just the name that THEY call them.

If anyone did breed to this stallion thinking they'd be able to register the foal as a Thoroughbred then you might indeed have a lawsuit unless the owners were clear about him not being a registered Thoroughbred.

Unless Acaroid has some kind of rep in the sport horse world I can't think of any reason why anyone would breed to this stallion registered or not. Acaroid was hardly a success at stud (that's why he wound up in Iowa where I'm pretty sure this one was foaled).

In addition to the high fee to register an older horse you also have to have the stallion service certificate and I'm betting the stud fee was never paid, therefore no certificate issued, and that's probably why no registration application was ever submitted (you have to submit the stallion service certificate with that). So if anyone did want to try to register this horse you'd probably also have to track down the farm in Iowa where Acaroid was standing and pay them the stud fee in order to get a service certificate from them.

Until all that is done, and all that money is spent, then he's a Grade Horse.

$20k for a Grade Horse who has apparently never done anything in any discipline (surely if he'd accomplished something in some other discipline it would have been mentioned) is pretty out there. Even if it's a typo, $2k for a Grade Horse who has never accomplished anything is out there.

Edited to add: I see that their made up "Big Machine" has been deleted from PQ which is good because there is a real "Big Machine" still actively racing (a WV bred Parker's Storm Cat colt who ran at Charles Town last Friday).

Their website is less than impressive, although they do offer: "Pedegree anylisis Buying consultant"

Yep, nothing says competence and professionalism like not being able to spell the service you're supposed to be an expert in.

Haha  , I saw that also when I looked at the site, among other errors. Doesn't give a whole lot of confidence to the purchaser.
They stand another TB stallion, Taraqqi. Entered stud in 2008. Prince George is a tough place to try and prove a TB stud.

Although, it may be tough, there is really no reason to try and promote something that is not quite acceptable. Unfortunately there are all kinds of folks who think they are breeding to a good thing, when, in fact, they really are not. So, what do you think is the solution?

Foothills, I don't think there IS a solution. Value is in the eye of the beholder...and the poor suckers they drag along with them. But I guess it depends on where you are, and how good you are at talking. There are a lot of gullible (perpetually hopeful?) people out there.
Unfortunatley, the horse world runs on opinion, much like religion, and as everybody and their dog has a differnt view on everything, a unified platform to define a "good thing" is near impossible in my mind.

I don't know, I think most race horse breeders are pretty savvy. They are not likely to be swayed by an ad without looking into the situation further. Not many are going to breed to an unraced stallion unless he is incredibly well bred which this horse is not.
There are people who will breed anything to anything just because it's cheap. They are not race horse breeders however. They will not spend the money to register a foal so therefore don't care what the registration status or pedigree is.
