Round Bale Alfalfa

Postby madelyn » Wed Feb 22, 2012 3:53 pm

I came across a fellow today who has 200 round bales of alfalfa for sale. Of course, the shipping comes into play, but they are really nice 4x5 bales, about 900 lbs each all stored inside, available for $40 per bale. If you live in one of the really bad drought stricken areas, even shipped in that might not be a bad deal.

I have a neighbor who is an over-the-road hauler with the right kind of flatbed trailers to take a load to, say, Louisiana, provided the numbers all work out.

The fellow with the hay is a dairy farmer getting out - sold most of his cows last fall. So whatever, if there is someone out there who wants alfalfa for their pregnant mares, the numbers might work out for you. pm me and I will put you in touch with the farmer with the hay, and the hauler.

Cow hay not fit for horses stored outside since last summer is 40 - 65 a round bale here. Sounds like a great bargain although the shipping is an unknown factor.

Ah well. I think he got quite a lot of calls.

I only need about 20 more to get through to tall grass.
