3 YO Seattle Slew Grandson

Postby griff » Sun May 27, 2012 12:53 pm

Gunnie Sgt [Gunnerside X Hot Concern]

WVBRED and nominated for WV Classics.

Fraternal grandsire is Seattle Slew, $1.2 millin and the last horse to win the Triple Crown

Maternal grandsire is Concern, by Broad Brush. Not as famous as SS but winner $3+ million including the Breeder's Cup Classic. Broad Brush was a famous broodmare sire and we hope some of that talent passed to Concern.

Gunnie is a complete out-cross and was put under saddle last fall and turned back out to mature.. He's mature now and ready to start serious training.

PM me with your email address and I'll send pictures.

I thought Affirmed was the last horse to win the TC.

could be

maybe I should have said 'one of the" but I did think it was SS.

And Gunnie is still a grand son of SS whether he was the last or next to the last.

That is a good thing being a grandson of SS. He was a heck of a horse!

Thanks Jeff. he is very nice and I can walk up to him in he pasture and pick up his feet w/o a halter, most of the time.

Think I'm going put all my 2 YOs under saddle and turn them back out in the future..

And by the way, he is a gelding, and I have his full sister that looks like a clone except sh does not have any white, anywhere

I know a show trainer who says starting every horse as a 2 year old is the only way to go, sets them up for success the rest of their lives, I'm beginning to believe it myself.

Plenty of experts agree with you, and data says horses that start as 2 YO' win more money than horses that start as 3 YO.

However, a lot of my geldings don't close until they are 30 +/- months and it's hard to get a May/June foal racing as a two year old when they are 30 months old when they turn 3 YO.

my fillies and colts seem to close earlier than my geldings.

I do have a February yearling full sister to Gunnie Sgt and she will be put under saddle this fall for a couple of months and turned back out until she is ready o start race training. If Gunnie does anything before Christmas, and we like what he does, we might send this one to SC and get her qualified for the $85k stakes race at PARX that is restricted to horses trained in SC.

He's a WVBRED and nominated for the WV BreedersClassics and needs to race in WV..

One of the WVBRED perks at Charles Town is they race year around and restrict two races per meet to WVBRED/WVSIRD horses. Thats over 400 races year restricted to WVBRED/WVSIRED horses.

They also do not count wins in WVBRD races in determining eligibility in non restricted races; i.e., I can run a horse that has won 5, 6, 7, or more WVBRED races in a non WVBRD restricted NW2. That in essence means additional races per meet that just as well be restricted to WVBREDs.

many other perks for racing WVBREDs@ CTown. Anyone interested in more detail or about other 3 YO I now have for sale can email at [email protected]
