A few mares- well bred at Crowley's in MA

Postby doublete » Sat Mar 19, 2005 6:03 pm

Just found out about four mares at Crowley's...

Val's Love, Cassie's Quiet, Wild Bell and Cool Note (or something, we can't figure out the name actually- a 3 or 4 y/o mare).

Cassie's Quiet has soundness issues...

Anyone intereested? All can be had for about $400 each...

If anyone has any interest at all...
CANTER is going to see them tomorrow, but once Canter takes them, they cannot be used for race breeding.

You can call Crowley's and pay over the phone by credit card, pay $7/day for him to keep them for a few days, and I will certainly help with transport.

Still trying to find out the fourth mare's name.

Please get back to me by early am. I need to contact Canter before 7 am.

More detail on mares

Postby Waquoit » Sat Mar 19, 2005 11:09 pm

More notes on these mares (talked to Ellen from CANTER NE - they will try to help but they cannot cover the costs of buying all 4): *these are all nicely bred horses who must be sold by Monday 3/21!*

CASSIE'S QUIET (Hip #293): http://www.pedigreequery.com/cassies+quiet
4 years old, dark bay
Sold for $25K as a weanling, NY bred
Wonderful disposition, very cute mare. May not be rideable but is breeding/pasture sound
By The Silver Move out of a Gone West mare

VAL'S LOVE (Hip #292):

http://www.pedigreequery.com/val's+love
14 years old
Proven broodmare, hard-trying racer herself, earned $66K

COOL NOTES (Hip #291):

http://www.pedigreequery.com/cool+notes
6 years old

WILD BELL (Hip #290):
http://www.pedigreequery.com/wild+bell
5 years old, dark bay
Lovely disposition, believed riding sound. By Personal Flag out of a Wild Again mare!

If interested, please call Crowley's at: 413-786-1744

Crowley's takes credit cards and will board purchased horses for $7/day if you need extra time to work out transport.

It is very likely that these mares can be bought for under $500 apiece. They NEED to find homes by Monday. Please call if you can help - these girls are well worth the money and then some, great bloodlines, short money and deserving of second chances.

From my experience w/Crowley's it was very easy - everything was done over the phone and I also hired them to ship her to me, same going rate as other haulers and they did a good job.

Keeping the digits crossed that these 4 ladies will be spoken for soon! ;)

If anyone wants pics of the mares...

Postby Waquoit » Sun Mar 20, 2005 7:26 am

The CANTER volunteers are leaving right now to drive to Crowley's and see the mares. (FYI - Cassie's Quiet has found a home, thanks to doublete and Gerry!)

CANTER has a camera in their cell phone - if anyone is considering buying one of the remaining mares (Val's Love, Cool Notes and Wild Bell), and would like to see pictures, please call the CANTER phone at 781-354-6291 (before 12:30 PM EST) and CANTER will gladly e-mail you some pics.

Agee-
Wild Bell hasn't run since '03 I think. Val's Love is an older mare, with a 2 y/o and a 3 y/o on the ground. She was a hardknocker. Cool Notes had a foal last year.
They all ran at Suffolk. I have race records on all.

Thanks Katie.

Question for you-We still havent done the bill of sale on Sweeps Choice. Can you tell me who the owner was so i can get one done. Im assuming i can get one done without the last owners signature.

You can e-mail me if you want.

Just as an aside its really easy to transfer her into your name.
Just go online (I always enter through equineline.com) to the JC Interactive Registry and go to to 'transfer ownership' then just type in the info and voila. It's simple actually.

As for a bill of sale, at this point you'll have a hard time actually getting one. Last owner was Kevin Joy.

I can't believe your friend wouldn't have had to transfer the mare already though.

As for the mares at Crowley's....

We may have jumped the gun, while the person that saw these horses first was under the impression that they were going on the next truck south, Crowley's is quoting a much higher price on all the mares. $1000 for each.

If you're still interested at that price PLEASE make arrangements and let me know you're calling on them.

Ok here's the deal...
It appears the mares prices are $650 each. If you are interested at this price please call the Canter phone before you call Crowley's.

Canter simply cannot pay that high, but at least at that price Crowley's seems to be losing money if they sell for any less (so we'll see what happens), but if Canter pays that high of a price then it sets an unreal precedent and it isn't fair to horses in the future(becuase as a general rule they would never be able to keep paying that price as a non profit based on donations only). They plan to stay on top of it though.

Sorry to post so many times, but trying to keep everyone updated!

Yea!! We're scrambling... just gave Crowley's our card number, my husband is going to get our neighbor's trailer... just put our guys away... we're going to go get Wild Bell! One of the CANTER volunteers sent us photos, she looks in good shape, well-fed...

Wish us luck, gotta run!!
More later!
