Val's Love, Cool Notes still available 12:00 Thurs.24th!
Yes, both mares have become available. Plans fell through, so both are ready to be bought as far as I know. I bought both earlier this week, plans have gone awry, so I wish you all well if you are interested in them. I was told they have current Coggins and current health papers, as well as Registration papers. God speed and God bless to whoever can get them. I'll also tell you they had been bought for $650 each.
Crowley's will not sell Val's Love and Cool Notes for under $600 apiece (CANTER New England cannot afford that price).
If anyone is interested and can buy them NOW, please call Crowley's ASAP at 413-786-1744. You can pay via credit card and Crowley's will board for $7/day if you need time to arrange transport.
If they do not sell today, they will go to Texas - according to Crowley's, not to the slaughter plant, but to go through an auction there where they feel they have a better chance of selling for the desired price.

They were never on the CANTER site. Both are proven broodmares, have been off the track for a while.
Crowley's has photos of both on their web site - http://www.crowleyshorses.com/OurHorses.html
You have to scroll down and search for their names to find the photos, which are very poor quality. Mares are said to both be gorgeous in person. Older one (Val's Love) has an incredible face and neck set. She is not a riding prospect. Cool Notes is lovely and very hunter-y, sound, nice mover. Both these ladies are quite the bargains. Great sporthorse breeding potential on top of the racing pedigrees.

Hi,
Just got off the horn with crowley's. They want 1500.00 for her not 650.00 . They will be taking her to the Texas sale. Nice mare out of Maudlin even at that price. She is a good deal for someone.

That is frustrating beyond belief.. I was told yesterday by Alice Crowley that if I paid $1200 I could have BOTH. I wasn't willing to do that for various reasons.
Such BS.
Poor mares.
BTW I've heard through the grapevine that the "TX sale" is NOT. That the rest of the horses on that truck are mysteriously going to disappear in TX... So why these two mares are any exception...
Just so annoyed at this point.

Racing and retraining.
At this point and with a scheduled trip to Texas, I would strongly urge anyone that may be interested in either of these 2 to act now - I won't go into details but once they're on their way to TX., they could find themselves en route of a 1 WAY TRIP with no options.
If they state a higher price - NEGOTIATE. Surely there's some avenues that could ensure they'd remain safe and at the same time prove an opportunity for breeding or a nice riding prospect (for the one).
Keeping the digits crossed!

Don't think we haven't tried.
But Crowley's is dealing with everyone differently, and at this point we think they're going to just be a$$es becuase they CAN.
I was lucky to get Cassie apparently, and skeenan was lucky to get Wild Bell. Now, looking back, if I'd been able to get Val's Love when I bought Cassie I SHOULD have.
Things got complicated and we think once canter made the call Dennis decided he didn't want to 'mercy' sell these mares. Which is why every person gets a different number, probalby because he knows what everyone is willing to pay.
If Canter paid what he wanted, then they'd be pretty much expected to ALWAYS pay that price, which is WAY higher than meat price and even meat plus some profit for him. And we all know there will be more horses in the future.
As for me, I just got so annoyed with them, my mom offered to chip in the extra money, but there's just something about the situation that bothers me. Especially since he backed out of the sale with Pam. Something tells me these mares have everything working against them.

No Doublete, didn't doubt for a moment that there's many that are/have been trying to locate a home for the remaining 2. You hit the nail on the head, and in retrospect, *if* you had been able to take another it would've changed the aspect of it, but unfortunately it's not a situation where many of us *personally* can step up.
When I secured Betty Mae I did not speak to any men, only to the gal with the first initial J. She was very nice. I'm sure they've got the 'heads up' once multiple inquiries are made on any of the mares - thus the wide array of prices quoted.
It sure doesn't help in making it a win-win situation for the mares/prospective owner(s). Simply put, it's horse DEALING, only trouble is we all know the odds begin to get stacked against the animal.
So dammed frustrating

Yeah, I'm incredibly frustrated with the situation and there will always be should haves, would haves and could haves in it.
Dennis and Alice Crowley are the ones that have final say on prices, and I spoke to Alice twice, but the lady with the name that starts with a J is their barn manager, and she has to check with them on any price. I managed to get Cassie, thank goodness by asking her, she called Alice (Dennis wasn't around), and Alice approved.
I just feel so terrible for horses in that position. I had the hardest time picking up Cassie with an empty spot on my trailer. The older mare was just gorgeous.
