Looking for large TB

Postby Howch664 » Tue May 06, 2014 9:08 am

I am looking for a 17hh+ 3-5 yrs thoroughbred. Must be sound. Willing to spend up to 3500$. I have check with the various rescues out there and haven't seen anything that catches my eye. Location doesn't matter.

Contact breeding farms near you & let them know what you want - often trainers/owners contact them when a horse that foaled there is done racing.

Canter Kentucky--Denton's Best 17.2. The ad does say that he may not be suitable for high impact jumping.

You could also call Bev at Mid Atlantic Horse Rescue. If you let her know what you are looking for she can keep an eye out. She is phenomenal at matching horses up with people and they have an excellent reputation. They are a very good organization to work with, very honest and up front.

Thanks for the heads up on those two. Unfortunately they are a little older than what I am looking for.

How: Isn't three or four a little young to start high impact jumping? Do you worry about keeping them sound if you start jumping so young? I am not a jump guy but I always was under the impression that five or older sound was the trick.
Give the Pope and the King of England a horse and in thirty days, they'll be stealing halters.

Everyone starts a different time. Just because I am looking for a young jumping prospect doesn't mean I am going to jump it right off the start. It takes time to put the flat miles on before you jump. Which is why we are looking for something younger, to allow time for it to be developed properly on the flat. As well when buying from the track we are also factoring in time to have it turned out for some down time and to just be a horse.
