Does one think an El Prado Stallion is worth $2500?

There is an El Prado stallion for sale for $2500. Does one think he is worth it? He is a good looking horse but he has old ankles. His name is Clever Crawford.

unless a horse is aged, infirm, crippled, can't be retrained, or something like that - $2,500. for just about any horse is a good price.

I know what you're asking, is he worth standing, but I'm saying; there are very few horses out there that aren't worth somewhere between $1,500-$2,500. regardless of what they can do today, because they can always do something different tomorrow with a little work and time invested.

Its just pretty cheap for a horse IMO

I prefer a stud with a good race record.

There are alot of well bred stallions but the best sires usually race well. I was just wondering if he would have resale value. My mare is by El Prado so he would not do me any good as far as breeding. My mare did not race well so I want to breed her to a stallion that can run.

Hello Keith, what's the mares name? I was doing some research on El Prado recently and I could probably come up with something.

Are you asking whether a stallion that is for sale for $2500 would make a worthwhile stallion prospect on the basis of the fact that he was sired by El Prado? If so, the answer is no. All the top stallions have sons that didn't make it on the track and most can be purchased for peanuts. Without a good race record (or performance record if you wished to market him to the sport horse people) or a truly impeccable pedigree, the chances of him being able to make it as a sire are virtually nil.

For what it's worth I have seen this stud in person. He is a very, very impressive individual from a physical standpoint. In addition, he is out of a Jade Hunter mare.

I looked up his race record and he has earned $109K in 39 starts, mostly in allowance company at Philly Park and Delaware. I liked him - he's of a rare quality for the track he is at and I think the only reason he's racing at Suffolk is he is getting sore.
