What's She Worth

Postby griff » Wed Dec 28, 2005 6:25 pm

1998 Adamandia's Girl [Cryptoclearance X Halo Silver by Silver Buck] in foal to Civilisation [Gone West X Toussaud] and booked back to Civilisation for 2006. Foals will be WV Bred.

What is a reasonable price for the tree-in-one package ?

just my opinion

I would figure the stud fee's then double those, then add another $10,000 for her. What ever that comes up to should be your price. Once a foal hits the ground it is worth double the stud fee according to insurance appraising.

WELL In that case...
ok FREUD $10,000.00 in 2006 X 2 $20,000.00
Add a cool $10,000 for the mare $10,000.00

Ok I'll take $30,000 for her in foal now or $20,000.00 for the foal when it hits the ground...ANY TAKERS?

How is the mare bred though?

Postby mrsmedic » Sun Jan 01, 2006 10:19 am

You only said she was in foal to Freud. What is her maternal history like? What is her registered name. Just because she is a TB doesn't mean she is worth $10,000. Is she a money earner? Broken her maiden? What class is her dam?

These are things to consider when appraising a horse.

BUT thats my point, according to your formula for accounting for a mares worth you didnt ask those questions. And no shes not worth $10,000. (speaking about my mare not griffs mind you)

Griff- you might want to list her for sale and add the info on the WV breeders program and see what kind of offers you get, I know more and more people are breeding in the WV breeders program.

Look at original post..then look at my formula

The original poster did put the mares name up. I looked the mare up, saw the black in her maternal lineup and came to the conclusion she is worth at least $10,000. I also looked up the stallions and their maternal lineup.

It depends on which market you are attempting to sell her at. The more recent names in the black, means more $$$ up front.

Hi MrsMedic,

The calculation that you mentioned is to determine profitability for sales foals (at least in general) and is also used by stud farms to create/justify the fees that they charge.

Thus if you have a foal having used a $10,000 stallion, you would be (generically) considered to have a profitable sale if you doubled that fee and added $10,000 = $30,000.

If a stallion averages $30,000 for his foals, many stud farms will divide that number by 2 and subtract $5,000 = $10,000.

I've never heard of any calculation that can be applied to broodmares. The 'black' in her maternal lineup (did you mean pedigree?) can range from insignificant double restricted races to the KY Derby.

Regards,

Pete
