Pletcher has 4 in the top 5.

Yes, and Asmussen is out at the moment, but with the next four waiting in the wings! I'm sure at least one, most likely two, will slide in by the time of the draw.

Really enjoy the analysis and comments that are in the handicapping session. You guys provide great insight. What a talented group for the Derby this year...I will be watching this one with more excitement than usual.

I breed one or two mares a year, always aiming for classic distance types...so the pedigrees are fascinating to me. This many scat daddys and curlins...wow. Leslie Lady as a paternal grand-dam of one entry and the dam of another. Very influential mare.

Hi Mac,
I agree, we are lucky to have so many knowledgeable posters contributing here on PQ. I certainly agree with you concerning Leslie's Lady...she is quite the broodmare, producing Derby contender Mendelssohn, the great Beholder and top sire Into Mischief who sired Derby prospect Audible. TJ

No sense wasting time....with 19 days remaining until the 1st Saturday in May, might as well get a jump on the handicapping process. Take note Blended Citizen's connections had a change of heart and will supplement him to the Kentucky Derby. He ended up in the 23rd spot, right in the middle of Asmussen's 4. One last note...they did not enter Blended Citizen's pp's in this link...maybe they will be added at a later date, as they probably recently made the payment? Here's the link to the Derby PP's. TJ

Hi Aug,
Seems Instilled Regard's connections have changed their minds and will take up their rightful position on the bubble behind Combatant. TJ

Here's an eye popping workout for Lone Sailor going in company with Pearls Opinion and Blaze a Trail. The 2nd place finisher in the GR II LA Derby was far, far behind his workmates as they left the 5/8ths pole. Watch the work below. TJ

Quip, who is 11 on the list, has been declared out of the KD, and will point for the Preakness, instead. The trainer thinks that three weeks after the Arkansas Derby is too soon.

Also, the European horse has gotten sick, and won't travel to Kentucky:

That will make room for Combatant and Instilled Regard to join the rooster.

Hi George,
Well that's good news...two defections and both will live to fight another day. Combatant makes four in the Derby sired by Scat Daddy along with Justify, Mendelssohn and Flameaway. Aug. 27 will be glad to hear Instilled Regard got in:>) TJ

Gronk is out, due to an illness.

The Derby date has snuck up on me this year... hard to get my head into it, when we're still getting snowed on (just last week, here in New England). :D

I am glad Instilled Regard is in!
I see many similarities between him and Giacomo ...
Hard to get past Justify, in my opinion, but "stranger things have happened."

Would Seahenge be allowed to run in the Derby? I have seen some comments in other places stating that he would take the place of Gronkowski. That would bump out Instilled Regard, won't it?

Hi George,
According to the rules of the Euro Road to Kentucky only the top 4 point earners are eligible to claim a spot in the Derby. Seahenge was 10th on the points list...but it's possible he could come to Kentucky and run in the Pat Day Mile? Though the GR I English 2000 Guineas is also a possibility for him in his homeland.
