Very nice...

Reminds me of one of my derby "handicapping" strategies: the no ugly silks, stupid names or a**hole connections approach.

This year, ruling out any horse with ugly silks, a stupid name, or bad connections I'm left with:

Court Vision
Eight Belles
Colonel John
Smooth Air
Adriano
Gayego

The funny thing is that this actually leaves me with a list very similar to the one I got from actually handicapping the race. :D

You're overlooking the most obvious.

On the 20 year anniversary of Winning Colors' win:

Eight Belles (big, grey mare, like WC)
Z Humor (the ONLY horse in the field by or out of a son/daughter of Forty Niner)
Recapturetheglory (same connections as Risen Star).
