Sunland Derby this Sunday

Postby TJ » Tue Mar 19, 2013 7:01 pm

Didn't realize we have two 85 point Derby preps over this weekend till Dub asked about Shakin it Up. The Spiral and the Sunland Derby. I will post all the official entries to this weekends Derby preps tomorrow. Currently it looks like a big field....but with one day till entries no sense posting possibles now....although Shakin it Up, Abraham, Power Broker, Overanalyze, Demonic and Dry Summer are possibilities to wet your whistle:>) TJ

Quite a few lightly raced horses in this one. Can't count out Baffert and those Midnight Lute's. I will be watching Jeff Bonde's horse. Mudflats is the most seasoned horse. I think he's the one to beat. Don't know what to do with the Sunland based horses. They are nice bred and plenty of seasoning..

Another track I'm not too familiar with so take this with a grain of salt:>) The prep itself hasn't had a winner go on to win the Derby, although Mine That Bird did run 4th in it and then lit up the board in the Derby. The SA shippers seem to do well in it and don't have a terribly uncomfortable trip to get there. TJ
Shakin It Up appears best in here.
Governor Charlie steps up, but has kept step with Shakin' in the AM.
Mudflats may come back to his old form.
Abraham has won at the distance...but in a lower class, WinStar tries again.

I'm all over Shakin It Up, but Dry Summer is proven on this track.

Third track record broken today at Sunland Park as Governor Charlie easily wins The Sunland Derby over Show Some Magic, Abraham and Shakin it Up. TJ

Midnight Lucky

I think Midnight Lucky set a NTR in winning her race just before Govenor Charlie won his. She'll likely be headed for the Ky Oaks. :D

Hi jagger,
Yes she did....both Pegram homebreds by Midnight Lute and trained by BB:>) The other was a Sunland Park horse who set a new 6.5F track record. The track played extremely fast today but hey....one race was worth 200,000 and the other 800,000....the money pays just the same no matter how fast the track is playing:>) TJ
