American dirt racing has evolved recently with horses like Zenyatta and Blame. Jockeys and trainers have realised you don't need to burn horses off if the first 1/8th and it can be done as affectively in the last 1/8th because that's were the finishing line is.
This crop might not be the quickest on the clock but are one of the deepest bunch and exciting.
Look at the list of Derby dropouts this year compared to previous years?
None of the fancied ones, another good reason to run slower preps.
This bunch of 3yr olds will last and will prove that article wrong on the track and in the breeding shed.
