It is doubtful the winner of this "wild card" derby points race will afford any of these colts a spot in the Derby....it will be significant to the lone filly (Pure Fun) in the race, who will most likely run in the Oaks. TJ

Hi George,
Under the allowance conditions of the race all carry 123 lbs. The only allowance Pure Fun received was the 5 lb. sex allowance bringing her to 118 lbs. The other colts in the race received either the 5 or 3 lb. weight allowance under the race conditions. Pure Fun was entitled to none of those additional allowances. TJ
Here's the PP's. TJ

Hi George,
Pure Fun, was originally entered because she needed more points to jump past Live Lively to make the Oaks lineup. Yesterday Live Lively's connections decided to pass the Oaks. The story is below. TJ

I posted this on a different thread a week ago, but on the subject of Pure Fun, I tried to buy her three times. First time as a weanling, she RNA'd, I was one of the bidders. So I went back to the barn, they wanted $12k. I told them I'd find a partner and try to consummate within a week. Well a week later I called them to tell them even though I couldn't find a partner I'd take her. They had changed their mind, wanted to see if they could get more for her as a yearling.
So then I try to buy her the third time at the yearling sale and I go to $18k, and Kenny McPeek got her for $22k.
The somewhat funny part, not than ANY of this feels good when her name keeps showing up to haunt me, is that I followed her to her first race, she runs bad in some bottom level claimer, and I think, Kenny and I both need to learn how to pick nicer horses.
I forget all about her until I'm watching the Hollywood Starlet Gr 1. Then I realize who she is
So for everyone's enjoyment, here is a link to her video as a weanling when I'm too dense to take her on the spot for the $12k!

Hi Mac,
Don't be tough on yourself, most of us learn these painful lessons. Partner's have to be ready to move or be at the sale with you. If not, give you their money (or set up an account between the both of you prior) so you can come home with the horse you find after going through the effort to seek them out. TJ
Thanks Cree and TJ. I've been an under-bidder before on graded stakes horses, but it doesn't count when I go up to $12k or $16k and then they go for $120k or whatever grin. She was the first one that I could actually could have afforded.
Be interesting if she qualifies for the Derby though. What a crazy business is horseracing.

Hi Mac,
She wasn't entered trying to get her in the Derby. She was entered because they needed more points to get in the Oaks. With the recent scratch of Lively Leader she is in the Oaks, whether or not she win's this race Saturday (which is only worth 20 Derby points to the winner). TJ
