speed rating plus track variant

Postby stancaris » Wed Apr 24, 2013 6:17 pm

To All: Does anybody have the past performances for the top 20 Derby contenders from the Daily Racing Form. I am interested in the speed rating plus track variant (not Beyer speed but the speed rating and variant that were always given in the DRF years ago and still are given today.

I am only interested in the speed rating plus track variant of a horses last race (usually at 9 furlongs). Could someone list the top 6 horses here and only those that total 103 or more when the speed rating is added to the track variant in a horses last race before the run for the roses.

Hi Stan,
As per your request here are the top rated horses combining speed rating and track variant. This brings back memories of days gone by and a room full of DRF's:>) I added all horses totaling triple digits so you can see where any sizable gaps occurred. TJ

Black Onyx 110, 1 1/8th miles synthetic track
Verrazano 108, 1 1/8th miles dirt track
Normandy Invasion 107, 1 1/8th miles dirt track
Vyjack 107, 1 1/8th miles dirt track
Governor Charlie 107 1 1/8th miles dirt track
Will Take Charge 106, 1 1/16th miles dirt track
Overanalyze 102, 1 1/8th miles dirt track
Goldencents 101, 1 1/8th miles dirt track

Lines of Battle N/A, one start in America on turf when a 2YO, 87 speed rating (-) track variant.

Andrew beyer very astutely figured out the serious flaw in the Racing Forms calculation of the track variance. This led to him calculating its own track variance.

TJ: Thanks , I really appreciate your help.

Can I assume that all other Derby entries achieved less than 100 when the speed rating from the DRF is added to the track variant from DRF in their last 9 furlong race?

Hi Stan,
You assume correctly (although I did note the distance of these totals from their final Derby prep race....not all being 1 1/8th miles)....8 others received from 99-97, while 4 others received from 93-88 total. This includes the bubble horse Golden Saul (92). Of note, Orb (96) and Itsmyluckyday (93) total in their last starts. TJ
