The GR III Pegasus Stakes

Postby TJ » Sun Jun 09, 2013 12:44 pm

The next 3YO race of note is the GR III Pegasus Stakes to be run next Sunday June 16th. Itsmyluckyday and Verrazano will be the top names in the race. If you haven't realized by now, Todd Pletcher needs his preferred 5-6 weeks between starts to get a top race out of his horses....it's also the reason why he does better in the Belmont Stakes then the Derby or Preakness. Just look at Palace Malice and Rags to Riches. Verrazano, who was rushed along as a 3YO to make the Derby, is training better now, than he ever did. He will have 6 weeks off since the Derby and has 3 good works leading into the GR III Pegasus next Sunday. Expect a big race in this, his Haskell prep. He's still the best 3YO Pletcher has in the barn, IMHO. Looks like the field may be small....but check back for updates. TJ

Verrazano...lets see if JV made the right call this time:>) Bad post?
Itsmyluckyday...JV off, Mike Smith in to ride. Can apply the pressure from the outside.
Gefest and Bethel...can Gefest handle the dirt? Both interesting LS's trained by Dorochenko.

Verrazano best horse in the race and should be able to dominate.

In a 7 runner field don't think post matters that much.

No surprise, sets up the 3yr old division nicely for the rest of the year - good to see Fort Larned win again and give the 3 yr olds something to race against and measure up to.

Hi Dub,
Looking forward to Saratoga...Fort Larned will run next in the Whitney and I wouldn't be surprised to see Paynter in there too. The 3YO picture will be a lot clearer too after the Travers. I was very happy with the way Verrazano came back....he looks bigger and better than ever. Imagine what he'd look like if they didn't ban steroids:>) TJ

lol TJ.

We are hosting your President and First Lady here today, hopefully they won't get too drunk and boisterous.

Roll on Saratoga - I like Paynter also could cause an upset somewhere along the line a lot of speed.

Hi Dub,
Just another Hollywood type photo op and scripted teleprompter remarks, so the attending world leader's can double talk their agenda. The main reason Obama went there is to play golf in Northern Ireland:>)
Looks like we're in store for some interesting summer and fall racing. I think we will also see some late developing 3YO's show their faces at Saratoga. One of particular note is Lent, Fort Larned's 3YO 1/2 brother by Pulpit....he was pretty impressive the other day when breaking his maiden in his second start. TJ

Dub, can you work on hosting our Prez and Lady for say another 3 years? I know some who would help provide the beverages.

Run the race - the one that's really worth winning.

JM two weeks drinking with me and he'd be dead.

I really don't know why you guys bother electing a President and not giving him the powers to implement policies.

The only things presidents seem to get done are all illegal or immoral.
