The GR III Lexington Stakes

Postby TJ » Sun Apr 13, 2014 9:09 am

This years wildcard race, the Lexington Stakes (10-4-2-1 points across the board), could play a big role in the Derby field. Run just 2 weeks out from the Kentucky Derby, it could be used by some on the bubble, to secure a spot in this years Derby. Trainers are being hush, hush as to their intentions, since it would cause a glut of bubble runners with Derby Fever to enter. Should be interesting to see who dares take this last chance effort to run for the roses. TJ

Of those concerned with their point standing in the Derby and who are nominated to the Lexington include:

Cairo Prince 24 points (currently in the field but could be knocked out by any of these)
Uncle Sigh 24 points
Bayern 20 points
Harry's Holiday 20 points
Pablo Del Monte 20 points
Vinceremos 20 points

Looks like the Lexington will be of no impact to the Derby field as it stands with the top 20. Other then trainer withdrawals of those in the body of the 20 top point earners. Here's the probables for the Lexington, official entries will appear Wednesday with Past Performances. TJ

A couple new faces showed up for this one, but it will have no impact on the Kentucky Derby field. Hopefully this race will return to its prior significance next season, when Keeneland returns to dirt. I'd wager we'll see Keeneland throw their hat into the ring to host the BC races after the return to a dirt surface. Lexington PP's below. TJ

Mr. Speaker should take to the synthetic surface, worked in 46 for this at Kee. Solitary Ranger bad post last....moves inside. Supermonic handled this course well under Castellano and he opts to ride Divine Oath. TJ

Dynamic Impact, Morning Calm and Global Strike are scratched. Dynamic Impact and Global Strike, cross entered go to the Illinois Derby. TJ
