The GR I Travers Stakes

Postby TJ » Wed Aug 26, 2015 3:26 pm

American Pharoah arrived safe and sound at Saratoga this afternoon. He's being housed in John and Sonya Terranova's barn at Saratoga just as he was when AP went to Belmont. They have a long relationship with Bob Baffert as well as a handful of horses for Zayat. Below find the past performances for the Travers field. TJ

I think if a horse is going to beat him, it will be Texas Red. But realistically, Pharoah is just so good, I think they are running for 2nd.

American Pharoah
Texas Red
Keen Ice

I agree! You don't see Frosted in there somewhere? I think he's been strong as of late and running well. Just curious!

I hope this link works... what a great pic of the Champ. He looks ready to me!

Don't get me wrong I think Frosted is a talented horse, I just think my top 3 are better going 10 furlongs.

Hi Geo,
Wow...he couldn't be feeling any better. I've never seen anything get him that worked up before, he's always so laid back....maybe they forgot to put his ear plugs in:>) It's a good thing that kid on the shank knew what he was doing, if he got loose it would have given Baffert another heart attack:>) I got three different individual pictures come up each time I opened your link, so I'm posting this in case the one you posted was not the one I'm talking about? I think this race may play out like the Arkansas Derby - only it will be raced among/with more mature, race seasoned three year olds and no Mr Z leading the way. I will be looking for the his signature late closing move by Texas Red moving into first at top of the stretch....with American Pharoah poised to thunder down and take it away from him mid stretch then going away, the rest of the field trailing behind.

Haven't figured out the rest of the finish order but am fairly confident of my picks for the first two finish positions:

1 - American Pharoah
2 - Texas Red

Very sad to see AP run his heart out and come up short. I give credit to the Baffert crew for accepting the challenge. I have a funny feeling we've seen the last of this Triple Crown winner.....he is truly not a mile and a quarter horse since we saw him run his heart out at the distance in the Derby as well.....but that time he prevailed, but only by one length, not his normal winning margin. I doubt they will run back in the BC at the 1 1/4 distance. At best they will find a spot for him prior to the BC, where he can leave the scene a winner, but it won't be going the mile and a quarter distance. TJ
