I posted this non graded stake because we talked about Ride on Curlin, who makes his 2nd comeback race Saturday at Fair Grounds. Also of interest is Eagle who seems to be an improving 3YO for Neil Howard. PP's below. TJ

I like Eagle in this. He has come back strong after his break, seems to be maturing into a nice horse.

Hi Cree,
I remember you added Eagle as a possible top handicap division contender. That was another reason I thought I would put up the race....it will be interesting to see how he does. TJ
Ride On Curlin...this race is do or die for him, worked very strong for this one twice after his last race and should be ready?
Eagle...ready for best, two solid 5/8ths should have him at the top of his game.
Freestyler...ships in from Florida to run back off just 9 days rest?

Here's the finish.....
Eagle...looked good winning by a couple in hand...
Freestyler...a clear 2nd over,
Ride on Curlin...ran in spots, doesn't seem like the same horse....maybe 3rd back off a layoff?
Treasury Bill...was 4th

I like this colt. He was very professional, and won well within himself. I like him moving forward.

Hi Cree,
I agree he handled that field under a hand ride and the time was extremely fast. Can't wait to see him try graded company. Looking forward there doesn't seem to be a spot for him in the graded ranks that will fit his schedule next out at Fair Grounds, so I think Howard will try another non graded stake on January 16th (The Louisiana Stake). That will be a perfect prep for a GR III attempt for Eagle on February 20th (The Mineshaft Handicap). Neil Howard won the Mineshaft before with Grasshopper for the same owner and Neil also trained Mineshaft for the same owner. I suspect their major objective is the Gr II New Orleans Handicap on March 26th, a race that was also won by Mineshaft. OK, if I have this all wrong...don't worry, I'll post his next race wherever he ends up:>) TJ

Looks like Eagle will run back in that non-graded stake at FG Saturday (Jan. 16th). It was the only option for him, time wise to run at the Fair Grounds and it should be a perfect prep for the Mineshaft (Feb 20th) then on to the New Orleans Handicap (March 26th). Here's the race and PP's. TJ

Eagle continues his bid toward his main objective, the GR II New Orleans Handicap on March 26th. His final prep with pp's below, is the GR III Mineshaft Handicap (Feb. 20th), a small but competitive field has been drawn for the race and the weight assignments could play a major role in the outcome.
