Pure luck on my part!

They're assuming that Songbird isn't quite right, but she ran a winning race, Forever Unbridled is a GOOD mare! It's not like she finished up the track, she got beat a neck, and was still trying to the end. I always thought the transition from 3 to 4 was hardest, and in her 2 lifetime losses she's lost by a neck and a sliver.

I'll take Practical Joke any day around one turn!

The betting public made Good Samaritan the favorite in the Travers. TJ

I had the thought that West Coast might throw a wrench in there, but didn't think he'd win it. Yes, good for Gunnevera! And happy Irap was up there to grab 3rd. Too bad he got clipped, I would have liked to see if he could have eeked out a second. :D

And whoohoo, Lady Eli!

Here's the results of the Ballston Spa:
The amazing Lady Eli first.
Dickinson
Boca Rojo
Antonoe

Lady Eli's win put Chad Brown on top (by one win in front of Pletcher) for the Saratoga trainers race title.

I don't think there is a horse running out there that takes my breath away like Lady Eli!

West Coast walked away with the top beyer speed figure of any 3YO going a mile and a quarter after his convincing Travers win...his figure was 108. Second best 3YO figure at that distance was Gunnevera's 2nd place finish in the Travers receiving a 104. Prior to that Always Dreaming's Derby win was valued at 103. TJ

Wow, pretty impressive! I went back to look, Irap had a Beyer of 109, but for a 1 1/8 mile. Looks like Bob put him right where he needed to be. It'll be interesting to see how the Breeders' Cup plays out for the boys... inconsistent seems to be the theme. Can't believe all three triple crown horses finished out of the money!

I loved watching Ladi Eli, too! She's so game! As she's going to be in the Nov. breeding sale, I'm guessing her price tag just went up... :D

Hi Skeenan,
The figure you found for Irap was the brisnet speed figure...his beyer figure for that mile and an eighth was a 102....brisnet figures are often higher than beyer figures and not interchangeable. I made a mistake with Always Dreaming, his beyer speed figure for the Derby was 102, not 103....so the 108 for West Coast is bit more impressive, as was Gunnevera's 104 off that long layoff. Considering Arrogate had a 114 in his last start at the 1 1/4 mile distance...this could give Baffert a one, two and possibly three punch in the BC Classic at his home track...Arrogate, Collected and West Coast:>) The guy always pulls something special out of his hat:>)TJ

Oh, my apologies! Didn't realize, thanks for pointing it out! :D Arrogate at 114 is insane. I hope he comes back for the BC. I read that Songbird will be getting looked over, I hope she comes back healthy and herself, also.

A handful of horses may train up to the BC:

Forever Unbridled
Stellar Wind
Lady Eli
Drefong
Practical Joke

Always Dreaming is going back to the farm.
