The GR III Peter Pan Stakes

Postby TJ » Wed May 09, 2018 10:32 pm

The Peter Pan Stakes has been a Belmont Stakes prep dating back many years ago. There's been a dry spell for some time until Tonalist recently used it as a springboard to winning the Belmont Stakes in 2014 upsetting California Chrome. Prior to that others who won the Peter Pan and Belmont Stakes were A P Indy in '92, Coastal, Cavan, Gallant Man, High Gun and Counterpoint. Of note in this renewal is Blended Citizen a possibility for the Preakness Stakes and Diamond King, who won a berth in the Preakness Stakes after winning the Tesio Stakes. So if either runs in here they will most likely not run in the Preakness. With the possible defection of Justify from the Preakness(??) either or both could be a late scratch in the Peter Pan? Core Belief, who finished in front of Instilled Regard when finishing 4th in the SA Derby is also an interesting shipper. TJ

Great to see the one eyed horse, Patch, return to winning form after almost 9 months away from the races. Coming from way back he looked hopeless 1/2 way through the sweeping Belmont turn but came flying to get up by a neck for the win. TJ

Here's the finish of the Peter Pan:
Blended Citizen...gets up by a driving length to beat the other Cali invader
Core Beliefs...a clear 2nd.
Just Whistle... Matz' maiden breaker was 3rd.
High North...finished 4th.

Nice super box Cree!

Blended Citizen is a big horse, looks like Belmont suits him.

Hi Cree,
Yes he reminds me of another big guy O'Neil had last year...Irap. Blended Citizen will be heading to the Belmont Stakes, no word on the 2nd place finisher (Core Beliefs) who battled all the way and held tough through the lane. TJ
